The vegetable garden produces vegetables and roses.

Hello friends!! Today I wanted to show you my first crop of aubergines. They are white!!

As the first vegetables I collected this year from the garden, I was especially excited.

I wanted to share these pictures with you. I hope it does not disturb anyone who does it in a forum that is of roses and not of vegetables.

By the way, the roses that appear in the pictures are of Rosa 'Pierre de Ronsard' that never until now had had a second flowering.

It's not like the first one, let alone !! Pretty smaller roses and of course much less quantity. But hey, they're beautiful too ...

As I taught you on another occasion, in my garden I mix vegetables and roses. I like it more like this, the orchard seems better integrated with the rest of the garden.

A greeting.

Maria.

Thank you very much, modestgoddess and vaporvac.

The first time I had news of the white eggplants was on a website that featured an image of a plant with "small eggs" hanging.

At first I thought it was an ornamental plant. Later I was informed about the origin of this variety of white eggplants.

If you find them interesting, I explain their origin.

Eggplants have their origin in India. It was not cultivated in Europe until the Middle Ages.

It seems that it was the Arabs who brought the seeds of the white variety to Spain. Here in my country, this variety was cultivated mainly in a part of Spain, which is known as Catalonia and in particular was very frequent its cultivation in a region (zone) called "Bagés".

For various reasons the cultivation of the white berenejena in the Bagés was in decline until almost disappearing and already in century XIX stopped cultivating.

Several organizations that promote the recovery of old crops are trying to recover.

At the moment the production is very reduced. For this reason it is difficult to find for sale these eggplants here in Spain. The little production that there is acquired high-end restaurants. It is considered a very refined eggplant. Taste less bitter.

I cultivated it for three seasons and I am very satisfied. Three plants of these eggplants supply the needs of my kitchen and even produce more of what I need and give to friends and family.

    Thank you Lilyfinch

Oh !! I can not disguise my passion even speaking a language that is not mine? Oh! It is difficult to hide the emotions when they are very intense ...

I check that the Google translator uses the same term when I write "garden" (total area, which includes ornamental plantings and there may also be an orchard area inside) and when I write "Orchard".

    He always translates as "Garden".

Could you help me by telling me what term you use in English when you want to refer to the area where you grow vegetables? Is it correct to use the term "vegetable garden"?

Thank you very much!! If I continue participating in this forum I will finish speaking English despite my absolute inability to learn languages hahahaha

In fact I already know many terms that I do not need to use the translator, for example pruning, Deadheading, manure, mulching, bareroot, hardy ... yes, all the words that I know of English are referring to gardening !! Hahahaha How strange !! True?

Maria, yes we call it a "vegetable garden" I grow a rose in mine also! Roxanne blooms in the spring when I don't have much to harvest, but I enjoy her while I'm spending so much time in the garden preparing for spring planting. Here is Roxanne from earlier this spring...

...and here is my vegetable harvest from yesterday:

Wow! Look at that! What a great bounty and the Roxanne rose is gorgeous!

mustbnuts Thank you for your kind words to my photographs.

Subk, Oh !! That is a real harvest !! What vegetables so beautiful !! What an illusion it makes to collect from the 'vegetable garden' the fruits that our vegetables give us in return for our care and our work.

Congratulations on your harvest !! I encourage other participants to show in this post their vegetable garden too !!

Do you think it would be interesting to see the space where other members of the forum grow their vegetables? I do!!

By the way ... beautiful rose !!!

    Maria.

The white eggplant sounds so yummy. I have never seen one before. Congratulations on your second flush of Pierre Ronsard. I only have one flush so far.

Yes, Toroto. They are delicious. If you want to know a way to prepare these eggplant (you can also make the dish with dark skin colored eggplant), you can visit my kitchen blog in this link:

    http://conmariaensucocina.blogspot.com.es/2014/01/torre-de-verduras-templadas-tomates.html

In summary it's as easy as this:

1.- Cut into thick slices the eggplant and ripe tomatoes. Put some salt if desired.

2.- On a griddle roast the two vegetables until they are browned.

3.- Mount the dish like this: Slice of eggplant, slice of tomato, some soft cheese (cheese that can be spread). Again another slice of eggplant, another one of tomato and we put cheese again.

4.- Finally, if you wish, spray this tower of vegetables with a little sherry balsamic vinegar Pedro Ximenez (bittersweet vinegar)

    To eat!! :)

Vaporvac, jajajajaja :) I love cooking !! It captivates me!! Yes, indeed, I have a cooking blog (many are Spanish recipes but there are also international food preparations, very easy to make dishes and others for holiday days and that involve something more elaboration).

If you are interested in reading it you can do it in your language. You know, by selecting the language you prefer on the key that says "Choose your language" above, on the right.

Thank you very much for your kindness.

I have never prepared any American dish because I do not know anyone from your country. I'm sure you have great meals. I would love to learn how to make a typical US dish but unfortunately I do not have anyone to teach me.
