More blooms from SE Michigan

Here are some pictures from yesterday...

Fabulous Frieda - FF is one of my favorite reds. Has been less blotchy than most of my other reds this season.

Classy Columbus. In a pot, just got from Annette Rice in May.

Two Sues bouquet

Navel Assault

Jinxy - FFOE, just got late last summer

Dances With Giraffes FFO. Not Guilty is in the lower left of the picture

Barbara Mandrell - just got late last summer. I think every bloom has been blotchy, this is the best one so far. Short scapes.

Patricia Snider Memorial

Glory To His Name

Abby Davisson - just got last August or September

That's 10. We actually got some rain this morning, yay! 8/10 of an inch. I'll post some pictures I took this morning later today or tomorrow morning. Thanks for looking!

I agree with Sherry, every time I see a photo of Two Sues, I think I need to add it. Not sure why because the color isn't really one I would normally go for, but it sure looks pretty. I don't think I've seen any photos of Patricia snider Mem this season, always a pretty one. Another I keep thinking I need to add, but haven't. Dances with Giraffes looks like a really tall one, thus the name you say? What is that plant directly behind it? I have a monarda that color blooming now, but looks like the flowers are larger than a monarda, & I imagine would be early for that where you are.

Fabulous Frieda does look fabulous. Great color. Patricia Snider Memorial is one I would pick just because it is nothing like I have already. Dances With Giraffes looks huge. I see your grow bee balm (monarda). I love it here but seems the red variety is harder to keep a nice clump of. I think "splotchy" is the norm this year for many of us.

DANCES WITH GIRAFFES has been on my list for some time and seeing your picture will motivate me to try and locate it.

I also picked up Classy Columbus. The watermarked eye really contrasts with the base color, unlike a lot of similar daylilies. Is not a large flower, but stands out. Well, Fabulous Frieda has never been fabulous for me. In fact, I think she kicked the bucket. Jinxy has interesting patterns.

I have been wanting Two Sues for years now and everytime I see it on the auction it is being bid on so it seems to be super popular (and by looking at your photo of it, deservedly so). That one is my pick for favorite.

Being a native, I bought Classy Columbus from Annette this spring. Put it in the ground - now has several scapes. Barbara Mandrell as a first year plant has short scapes for me too. It has been blooming quite well though. I hope it does better next year. It is registered at 30 inches.

Beautiful group of blooms! Very nice clump of Two Sues. Patricia Snyder Memorial really stands out. I have considered adding that one to my garden. Very nice!

Patricia Snyder Memorial always takes such a nice picture. She must be a good daylily across the country. Glory To His Name and Fabulous Freida round out my top 3 out of an overall really nice group...........Maryl

Thanks for commenting, everyone! Nancy, Dances With Giraffes is super tall! I've never measured, but it is probably close to 5 feet here (I got it 2 years ago). I have it by a couple of other tall ones, Getting Airborne and Up And At 'Em. That is monarda - mine have really started blooming over the past week or so. That particular one is called Peter's Fancy Fuchsia, I bought it from Bluestone a few years ago, I have a few clumps of it. It gets really tall. Julia, you're right, the red bee balm is harder to keep a clump of... I've had a couple that have died out (Fireball is one), Jacob Klein does pretty well here. Most of my non-red bee balm went bonkers and grew like crazy since last year, I had to rip out a ton of it and I completely removed it from a couple of areas where it was getting into too many other plants.

Fabulous Frieda is my pick. And there's that blue again with Navel Assault - is that a penstemon? As a newbie, I'm working my way through the daylily abbreviations. :) I see you're in MI 5b - I list as 5a , but I think the corral garden may be its own micro-climate and more like 5b. I'll be looking to you as my hardiness guide.

Thanks Laura for posting the names of the bee balm. And yes, they do get invasive if not managed, lol.

Sam, the blue is Siberian catmint - Nepeta sibirica 'Souvenir d'André Chaudron' specifically. It is my #1 plant for hummingbirds - they love it here. What part of Michigan are you in?

Wow - that doesn't look anything like my catmint - your blooms are way bigger! Though, I couldn't tell you what variety of catmint it is; that could have a lot to do with it.

I'm in the middle of the state about halfway between Big Rapids and Mt Pleasant.

I have several different kinds of catmint - the Siberian is definitely very different than the others, bigger flowers, taller and more upright. I graduated from CMU... many moons ago (like almost 30!). Hope you didn't get hit by all the flooding that Mt Pleasant and Midland had a week or two ago.

No, it rained heavily, but no flooding here to speak of. Sounds like we are fairly close in age, though I probably have a few years on you.
