We've gotten butcher block counters from https://www.hardwood-lumber.com/ for our past and current homes and have been very happy. They are local for us but I'm pretty sure they ship all over.

Check for John Boos retailers in your area. We bought an island butcher block counter a couple of years ago locally, and it was a great price (and no shipping charges).

Definitely look to find a John Boos countertop supplier. The wood countertops supplied by the above dealers you mention are not of the same quality . You will pay more $$$, but in the long run much cheaper than to replace installed counters.

I forgot to mention that Floor & Decor also has 12ft lengths available. Of course it's not the quality of John Boos, but I presume from your original post that budget concerns play a role here.

I would stay away from Lumber Liquidators, though, no matter how long a piece they offered.

In the past, people here, most notably poorowner, have had a terrible time with hollow spots in LL BB. As for the laminate, you are aware of the big thing with the formaldehyde content and so on a couple of years ago, right?

Where are you located? I learned about NW Bamboo from Joe the countertop guy who is based in Florida, I think. He had bamboo counters delivered, but I just happen to live 30 minutes from their warehouse in Portland. An 8 ft length of counter top was $200 a year ago. I never would have considered bamboo if I hadn't seen them here on GW. We treated ours with tung oil. They're very durable. I love them.

Our carpenter glued two pieces of IKEA butcher block together, it worked pretty well. Hit our price point and it has spared me freaking out when the kids get glue, nail polish, etc. on it. Wearing very well after 10 years.

Armani Fine Woodworking was recommended to me by a poster, Kristine, who'd used them, when I inquired. She said they did a lovely job.

I think where you buy, and how much you wish to spend depends on how you will use them. If they are just for looks, you won't be cutting on them, you might want to go with something a little less than John Boos or Armani. If you plan to cut on them, I'd go with something better known and of higher cutting/durability quality.

we've done a few butcher block tables and kitchen islands now. For anyone looking to build their own get a set of these clamps from Shopsmith. They really make the panels flatten out nicely and it helps to reduce the amount of finish planing you have to do at the end. They are relatively easy to set up as well. Make sure you use at least 3 clamps for a decent sized table. This is an edge grain butcher block table we are currently building.
