Upholstery Cleaning Suggestions for Fabric on Bar Stools

I have micro-suede fabric on my 5 bar stools. I have the same fabric on two chairs and a fair amount of left over fabric as well. Saturday, I replaced the fabric on the two chairs and was considering doing the same with the bar stools, but thought it might be worth seeing how cleaning them in place turns out.

Do you have a favorite upholstery cleaner / appliance? I'd appreciate very much your recommendations.

Here are the chairs in 2012 - when new - I did protect with Scotch Guard. They're looking dingy along the fronts and seats.

there is really no magic cleaner. go on you tube and watch videos of guys cleaning car interiors. we recently cleaned our seats in a car we had made completely disgusting. it takes a lot work but the key is to use lots of terry cloths and be sure to soak up all the liquid into the towels. if you don't, the stains will remain, at least the tough ones. I couldn't believe how new our car interior turned out.

isabel98 and benjesbride- Thank you for the responses and suggestions. The youtube thought was helpful, so easy to get lost there but I did get some good ideas. I've ordered microfiber towels and will start with just water (got to at least give it a try!) and also possibly rubbing alcohol, and lots of microfiber cloths. I'll take pictures and let you know how it turns out.

Believe it or not, the best cleaner I've found is Nature's Miracle. It's used for animal oopses. I used it once to get red wine out of a friend's white silk chair and I've used it to get chocolate out of my suede microfiber stools. I would dilute some in water, spray it on and try dabbing it up.

I'll second the use of Nature's Miracle. It's useful for far more than cleaning up animal-excreted materials. Dilute or try it on a less-visible piece of fabric first.

oldbat, I'm actually more interested in how you replaced the fabric on your two chairs.

The others were chairs and not barstools -much simpler and I'm sure tons of youtube videos :) Very easy and satisfying, with the right chair :)

    1) Flip your chair upside down

    2) Unscrew the four (?) screws which hold the seat to the chair base

    3) Remove the bottom black cloth if there is any

    4) Pry out staples with pliers / large screwdriver (they come out quickly)

    5) Remove fabric, marking top and bottom

    6) Use fabric as layout guide, for cutting out new fabric

    7) Center fabric and stretching tightly, staple to seat base

    8) Replace black cloth if desired and put screws back on

cp and steve - thank you for the Nature's miracle suggestion.

I use Oxyclean for very light-colored items that I won’t worry about possibly turning much lighter… so I’d 2nd (or 3rd) Nature’s Miracle. If you can’t find that, try a bit of diluted alcohol – the primary ingredient in Nature’s Miracle - tho that might be just for scent removal. I've also found a paste of baking soda and water helps with tough stains: leave it on a while, gently remove, and press with a clean towel.

Having said all that, I just cleaned my husband’s micro-suede sofa with plain old water and clear dawn, it helped, but it is a dark chocolate color. I’d test anything on an inconspicuous area first.

Here are some easy homemade upholstery cleaner ideas! I've tried the hydrogen peroxide method on my dining room chairs and it worked.
    Hope it'll help ...
