Can you feel it when you run your fingernails over it, can you stick the end of your fingernail in it? Looks like a crack to me.

That's totally a crack. Did you pick out these pieces yourself? If so, you know darned well you would have seen this!!

I am a fabricator. A fissure is a feature that looks like a crack but doesn't go thru the material. If I understand your pics the "crack" appears to the edge and then thru the material. If there's an overhang and you can see the underside you can additionally confirm the crack is thru the material.

It is really a "hack" move to tell a homeowner to move the part on their own and the hack knows if it really is cracked it can separate unpredictably when moved again which can be dangerous.

Good luck. A stone supplier that would suggest you move the piece yourself is not likely to be one that will stand behind his work. You can tell him you'll use the various social media sites to report on his performance; he might care about that.

I would so expose this fraud. That is a crack.

I am just disgusted by the whole thing. I asked yesterday if I could come down today to go over the replacement slab so we could agree on it's condition. He said he was very busy and that he only had one slab I could select from. That's when I stopped payment on the last third of what I had paid him upon delivery. That news came back with now he would have to write up a whole new contract and I had just delayed my job and he would only take cash from me going forward. At this point I want nothing more to do with this, but we are already $1000 in and my husband is about to divorce me (kidding, but maybe).

I hope you use yelp, google reviews, Nextdoor, etc., to their fullest extents to get this guy's name out there as the unethical %$#@*& that he is. Maybe after you finish your project though. :(

Can you stop payment on the rest of it too? If so I'd tell him to come pick up his sh**#((&( and then find different slabs from a different yard. And then I'd do what Fori suggested and get his name all over the web.

Did you use a credit card? You may have recourse there.
