Chunky Braided Rug - Looking for sources

last modified: 8 years ago

We saw this Chunky Braided Wool Rug at Restoration Hardware and were considering it for under two of these Natuzzi Rodolfo sofas we've already ordered in the blue/grey fabric below. They'll be facing each other, probably with an accent chair on one end of the grouping. Any thoughts on this rug with these sofas would be appreciated.

Under two of these....

Done in this sofa color...

We were very close to buying the rug in a 10'x14' size, but then read so many bad things about RH that we've decided to keep looking. Has anyone purchased or know of good sources for this style of rug?

I like that style of rug too and am considering one for my office. However, it looks it would be hard to clean and might pull. I don't know though.

What color are the floors and the walls?

Hi Clarece - The walls are Sherwin Williams Desert Sand. (It looks a little darker in this photo than it is on the walls).

Floor is 24"x24" Ergon Stone Project Grey Falda.

    I appreciate your thoughts.

I think that looks great together!

Although the leather the sofa is in on the photo, I believe would look even better because of the mix of materials... It allows each piece to compliment each other and also highlight its beauty at the same time

Any would work, but the dark leather would be really nice and you can bring in the blue with a bold printed blue chair!

Great feedback, Clarece! Thank you for putting it all together.

I do see how the sofa in leather would have added interest through its complementing texture and I can't tell you how many times we went back and forth between the brown leather and blue fabric.

At 24' x 29', the room is a very large combined living & dining room. We landed on the blue fabric thinking the space could use a good splash of color. Seeing the chair in your sketch, we'll definitely go with a patterned accent.

    A couple of updates...

Having not found a rug with quite the feel of the one from Restoration Hardware, against my better judgement, we purchased the 10' x 14' one from RH. It's arrival was a bit of a disappointment, in that it just didn't have as much appeal as the small sample we saw in the store. It's color is supposed to be 'oatmeal', but is really more beige and there aren't any of the darker spots you can see in the photos above... which makes it a bit uninteresting... kind of 'meh'. You can see it in the photos below.... to me it certainly doesn't look like a $4000 rug. But we're going to live with it because we do like the chunkiness, the size is right, and I'm just tired of looking for a rug. :)

The sofas on the other hand are a whole different story and are why I'm posting this follow-up. Perhaps it'll help someone else not make the same mistake.

I had assumed Natuzzi sofas were made in Italy and would therefore be constructed with some level of quality, but have now found out otherwise.

When we received the two matching sofas last week we liked the color and fabric, but the construction is just horrendous. Our salesperson apologized saying she "can't believe these sofas were let out of the factory"...

This is their 'diamond tufts' (compare to the advertized design in the original photo above).

    Tufts?

The seams are unevenly sewn like this on all sides and backs...

Seams are so badly done the variation in their vertical location at the face of their arms from one sofa to the other is a full 2 inches...

Hard to believe it, but yes, these sofas are supposed to be the one shown in brown in my first post.

Although we did like the color, now that we're looking for sofas again, with this rug I'm leaning toward taking Clarece's advice above and am considering a brown leather model from some other maker.

I'd be very disappointed too. That is ridiculous.

Oh no, the sofa looks nothing like the photos.. So sorry it came out that way, I hope you're able to return or at least exchange that piece!

And I'm curious to see the relationship that the rug has with the blue and how the colors and styles work within the overall space. That'll help determine which route is better..

Rogerc Would you be able to take a photo of the whole room with the furniture pieces in it?
