A kitchen is maybe not the right location for a zebra rug. Actually, rugs in a kitchen can be a headache for cleaning and safety.

Better suited for a dining room perhaps.

I've had rugs in my kitchens for years. Never had a safety issue. If for some reason the combo of the floor and rug are slippery you can always add a pad. If you choose the right rug, cleanliness is not an issue. I've used indoor outdoor rugs or synthetics. Vacuum and spot clean as needed and take them outside and hose them off a few times a year.

As d_gw said, zebra print is pretty versatile. It pairs well with bold colors or neutrals. If you do a Houzz photo search for zebra rug (I searched living photos because I thought there would be more examples than kitchen) you can see what prints others have paired them with. It's a wide range.
