Arizona Apt w/ NY Feel!

Just moved across the country from
New York to Arizona. My new apartment has gauntlet gray walls and dark hardwood. I want to brighten the room with lighter colored furniture but am hesitant because I have a dog, so I don't want the furniture to get/look dirty easily. (Especially that we're surrounded by dirt and sand in the desert.) Any suggestions would be truly appreciated! :)
