This type of closet is really common. And it sucks! I'll give you a few options. They'll involve calling a local closet company, or ordering materials online and attacking it yourself. 1. Remove the lower of the two shelves, and raise the bar to 85". Re-install that shelf at 42" and put another bar below. The reason your extender thing didnt work is that, it doesnt factor in proper heights needed to hang clothes. This design will give you the same shelving, and another bar -effectively doubling the hanging capacity compared to what you have now - albeit you wont have space to hang long items, so they'll have to go into another closet 2. Install a 12" or 18" wide tower of shelving on the left of the closet, and have double rods then going off where its hard to reach. This would allow the shelving to be moved from above to the side, and be more accessible. Again as above, you got your double hanging, if the rods are spaced at the proper heights. I would advise against the shelves in the unreachable side. Many times customers ask about this, and its usually a bad idea. They're going to be fairly deep, and just be a place that crap gets thrown, and forgotten about. They're going to be covered by your clothes, so you'll have to push your clothes out of the way to grab stuff - depending on how jam packed your closet is, this will be a hassle. I was told by my salesperson that CC does not negotiate price. Basically, they are limited to whatever promo is going on for the month (like a fixed computer calculating system). Plus I'm pretty sure they are paid on commission so there may not be any incentive to try to lower the price ?? - my best guess. It was kind of comical when our salesperson emphasized over and over that the color / finish we were looking at for the drawer facings was on promo currently. Savings of $32 total - ha! We also checked out TCS - The Container Store and Home Depot. We have yet to commit because they are all SO pricey! And then you google and read horrific experiences for all at some level -- and it's a closet! Not a car! I think we are leaning toward CC, but I have to figure out if we can tear our and paint ourselves as this alone with CC was quoted at around an additional $850. Ya.... don't assume that this part of the job comes included in the quoted price. This is in addition too! I'd say that's probably most cringing part -- thinking I've been quoted somewhere between $7-$11K and that doesn't even include the tear our and paint portion of the install -- yikes! So I've never encountered something so pricey that's so pieced out service wise. I guess I expected for the price it would be full service/all inclusive. Feels kind of like flying Spirit. It just keeps on adding up. lol

Also, some of the other photos posted by users I noticed to be wall-mounted systems. You want to make sure you go with something floor-based, because 1) You won't have to worry about the weight of your wardrobe weighing down the shelving over the years, and 2) floor-based systems blend into existing spaces better, making the design feel like part of your home's original floor plan.

@misscorl1 - what is it that you feel is functional about a TV over a fireplace? Can't be the viewing angel as that's all wrong, as is usually the proper viewing distance. So in my opinion this is not a functional place to put the TV. And it certainly is not a pleasing look unless you are able to hide it. ootockalockatuvik_7a is correct in that the mantle - if there is one, is a place for decorative items, though not just seasonal. If no mantle then the wall above should be nicely decorated with art, mirror etc. A fireplace with or without a mantle (as so many of the newer linear ones give different options) is a focal point and should be pleasing to look at. It's so much nicer to spend time in a room that is well laid out, functional and nicely appointed. Keep in mind that when the TV is off - it's just a black hole. For those who want to hide the TV, have a look at the new Samsung Frame TV - such a brilliant idea! The debate goes on!
