Help! Should I install a steel cable railing staircase in a tudor home

Im in the process of remodeling my home. I'm doing sleek modern kitchen and bathrooms and stuck on whether or not I should do a cable railing system in either black powder coated steel or silver stainless steel. I don't know if I can pull off this look in a traditional tudor style house built in 1979. I attached some photos of my house along with the steel railings I'm interested in. Should I put them in? Or any other suggestions?

The house is kind of Mock Tudor rather than Tudor Revival, meaning that it is essentially a contemporary house of it's era with some Tudor detailing.

If you are renovating the entire house to the same level of contemporary sleekness, you can do whatever you want. Not some much if you are leaving the traditional casework.

Unless you remove ALL the traditional look, the cable is too contemporary for me to see. It would look disjointed.

I don't know the historical stylistic importance of homes. It was built in 1979 so I don't think it has any historical value? The previous owner was a carpenter and I guess he made it look like a tudor to match the exterior of the house.

The only woodwork I plan to keep is the front door since its irreplacable. Its a 400lb door on a pivot. Kitchens and bathrooms will be very modern. Office on the 2nd floor I'll probably keep....library I have no clue but most likely will remove it and convert to bedroom.

Any suggestions if the cable is too modern?

I'll reiterate what Palimpsest said. Make the entire interior modernist and the cable should fit right in.

I agree that the stainless steel would look disjointed. What about keeping the wood handrails but replacing the wood balusters with wrought iron?

Thanks, i'm leaning towards removing all the wood except for the front door and office. Just don't know if I can pull off the steel cable look even if I modernize the whole house. If i decide on the cables, would black or stainless steel look better?

    I would probably do black.

The color that would look best depends on the rest of your finishes. I feel like you are putting the cart before the horse. I would decide how you want the room to look first and then a decide on a staircase that works with the space. The cables are just one part of the design.

d-gw is correct. Make the other changes to the house first and then see about the staircase. The outside is a contemporary version of Tudor, not authentic, so it doesn't have to dictate the design inside the house - IMO.

Thanks. I also posted in the kitchen forum and everyone thinks I shouldn't touch the tudor woodwork because some said my house value will drop like a rock. The house was built in 1979 and I doubt its an authentic tudor.

You've provided pictures that show a lot of traditional woodwork and built-ins (as well as a traditional style exterior), so it's kind of hard to picture it all gone except for the front door, which I'm not sure is even pictured in the photos. But if you like an eclectic look and already have sleek, modern kitchens and baths, there's nothing wrong with making your stairway match the other modern spaces. For me I think it would be too jarring to try mixing Tudor with super modern finishes (and I consider myself pretty eclectic), but I have friends who've mixed similarly disparate styles in their home and they're quite happy with the results. I agree that a designer to help with an overall plan would probably be a good investment.

Thanks East. I wish I could de-tutorize my tutor :-( Not really a big fan of the style. I don't mind the traditional exterior, but definitely want a modern interior. Just feels so much cleaner and nicer. I have an appt. with a metal fabricator at his showroom to see if the steel staircases looks nice. There is no way Im keeping any woodwork if I go that route as it won't match.

I just came across this post. Any updated pictures of what you decided on?
