Protecting new hardwood floor: which rug/carpet to use?
Comments (4)What a lovely space!. Yes, definitely get two rugs to pull the living/dining space together. With the neutral tones (greys, browns, white) that are there, go for something with a neutral background but with pops of colour that you can use as accents in both spaces. Blues, greens would be pretty. Having had hardwood floors for years - you do need to cover them to protect them especially with young children. I would go with a sectional, but keep the scale in mind, this is not a big space, so don't purchase an oversized piece. Good luck!...See MoreFinding an area rug pad that will not damage my hardwood floors
Comments (3)Natural fibre products that have a label that state: "Safe For Hardwood Floors". Ikea has many rugs with this label....Walmart has very few if any. Stay away from "black rubber" or even some forms of "natural latex" products. Many of them stain hardwood AND vinyl AND linoleum!...See MoreHelp matching existing hardwood when buying new hardwood
Comments (3)The African cedar is going to be hard to "match"...walnut has some of the same movement. Cherry is a beautiful product...but it gets darker/redder in light (direct sunlight = very dark/red; indirect = medium dark/red). A stained hickory can help with some of the variation/movement while keeping the same colour range. A stained oak can work...but the grains and movement will be very different. Again, your floor has is a strong mimic of walnut...you might want to start with that species to see if it is something worth persuing....See MoreHow can I put hardwood floors in rooms around existing hardwood floor.
Comments (10)I think this depends on how large the pegged area is. It's rather easy to add hardwood to the areas around it and either sand and refinish those area to match/approximate the pegged room and/or refinish the pegged room area and change all of it to a new color. From the picture, it looks like red oak (but have someone local look at it in person to confirm. The pegged look and strong bevels are rather dated and most of my customers don't like this look (and bevels are hard to keep clean. If it's a small area, I would rip it up and replace it; if it's large, have the flooring company do an estimate both ways. Usually if my customers can afford it, they'll rip it up and replace it. If they are limited on budget, they'll refinish it...and then try to replace it later. You can read about red oak vs white oak in this article....See Morebrianjess
