Honestly, with the furniture you have in your living room, I don't think a rug will work. You would have to commission a custom sized rug to fit your room exactly. That can be done...but not cheap.

In my house, the bottom left of your rug (the cut off part in your pic) would sort of be just floating in the undefined space behind kitchen island stools in the wide hallway type space. Would that look ok? Thank you!

Wonder, even if it were a 5X8? You can push some of it under your couch to make it work.

This is the view looking into the family foom. Kitchen is on the left and dining is on right, marked by two of those pillars.

So a rug tucked under the sofa would just sort of start abruptly when viewed from this angle. Maybe I'm imagining that this will look odd ha ha!

Do you have a rug that is 5X8 just to play with? Or you could outline on the floor with some sort of tape. From your photo I do not see why you could not fit the 5X8 rug. Do you have a layout with measurements by chance? The last photo is hard to see exactly what is going on.

I think I will try to make a mock up to see! In the pic above, the corner of yhe rug will be where that large white/bright sunlight spot is. Thanks for all your help!

Go to a carpet store. You can have a carpet cut to your specifications. No, it won't be like an Oriental rug, but with all the textures and prints available, I think you can get the look you want.
