Need recommendation for a rug and wall decor

i would like some professional advice for choosing a rug and wall decor for this small piano room (12x9feet)!

(I tried to edit the previous post but couldn't do it so I'm positiby this again )

I attached a hallway picture which leads into this piano room where I'm thinking to install a barn door if it is possible and the second picture is a family room that has a curtain(khakish beige) which I'm thinking to install for the window in the piano room )

Maybe a hint of soft color?

I would consider getting a rug and a matching runner for your hall. How do you feel about adding some color and pattern? A kilim or Persian rug would work with the aesthetic of the rest of the house but would warm things up a bit. And I think they would be an interesting contrast to the simple elegance of the piano.

Is there a reason why you want the barn door?

This will blow your head off lol. However, if you ever decided to go for color...

Edited: I thought you might be in shock after viewing the above rug so I figured I had better post a rug in the same Dreamscape Collection ( or maybe it's from the Javari Collection, I forget) that will soothe your soul.

This is is my favorite if you want to stay light as it has bits of other colors but is still somewhat neutral. Plus, it's good and artsy for the music room.

Forgot to give you the link and different sizes to choose from depending on layout of the space regarding the piano.

Thank you for all the advices.

I moved the piano a little bit as follows.

The smaller wall measurement is 8.9x6.3 feet (7.3x5feet for the lower part of moulding on the right side)

The mirror I put on the wall is 8.5x2.10feet.

I just found this rug (8x8feet, which will cover the floor just before the chairs on both side), and wondering if this works in the room ( I thought it looks simmiler to the first photo).

It looks a bit ordinary for your space which is so lovely. However, gray rugs like this were very trendy popular a few years ago so if you like it...

It will look fine but if you are trying to move away from the spare masculine vibe of the rest of the house, this rug won't change things much. I think your piano deserves better.

That's true. Thanks for the advice.

What do you think of this one? It's elegant and it has some color but it's not bold.

It's from All Modern. Darcey Rug

    Here's some on Horchow.

love this one because it looks like moving swirling music. Not sure if it might be too dark. Pretty though.

Thank you all very much for your help. All the rugs are beautiful. By looking at some rugs on my floors in the pictures posted, I think I feel comfortable with more grey hue ( I was leaning toward white with grey criss cross rug like the one in the picture of black window flame, but by looking at the picture above makes me realized that the room need a little bit more accent or style on the floor. I like the blueish grey with white color like Jodie posted (if it's not too bold). I wonder if the following rugs look good in the room.

I like the material of the following rug if it's not beige.

I like the ribbon rug although it would stay nice for about a week in my house (I have two dogs).

This is nice because it has just a little tic of warmth splash in the gray and white.

Edited: ok, I went to post the link and saw that it is not the right size even after I specifically keyed in a size in the filter. Grrr, if you like it I'll look around.

Found it! It's on sale with this size sold out on many sites.

I wish the pattern is bigger. The following picture is how it looks from a far. Do you think it's still nice or should I try searching like that with a bigger pattern? Also, where should I place a rug? Under the piano or in the sitting area ?

For the piano room as the LR area is more beige, correct? I think it would be a striking bold look against the floors and piano.

I think it's pretty but doesn't look as good as I thought it would down. These might have a bigger pattern if you want that.

What color are your walls painted? Do you have plantation shutters? If so the molding of the window painted black will not look good:( However you could paint the smaller window wall black to be dramatic with the gray rug you chose. What you have communicated with the look you are trying to achieve, you nailed it. Good luck .

I see your point. I guess I have to decide either I go with a bold look by painting the wall white with an accent wall of black or softer but still elegant look. I maybe very wrong but I feel a black grand piano against a black wall maybe a little too much in the small space. Does the first rug (grey/silver floral rug) look good in the piano room to create more softer environment? If so it will be great if you can give me some advice what wall decor and maybe additional curtain, floor lamp, etc will work with it?

I am still liking the original as modern and chic with black contrasting piano. My opinion you have to go with what you like. What are the current wall colors? You do not have to paint wall black and it would be mostly window and shutters. The photo I posted was a larger wall. The piano is on the other side.

if you are looking for dressing up your new bare walls and have an idea to decorate it. The next thing you need is to collect all essential accessories and products. It is very important to have all the products related to theme and good quality. To buy these kind of home decor accessories an online store is the best option

Thank you all so much for your help again! My wall color is sherwin-williams Birch white flat (3043). Only half of the window frame is covered with the shutter frame. Do you think it's effective enough to paint the frame outside the shutter ?

I'm more than happy for any suggestions for this wall as well.

A bench would be perfect in that little nook, what is the measurement? After you choose rug

Not finding that color???? Love the angles in the space.

The builder of this home gave me the color code. However, Sherwin Williams says that it's discontinued and when I ask them for touch up paint, they custom made one for us as follows. Hope this will help.

If you put a bench in the nook, I'd keep beige chairs and remove the dark ones. The dark ones have that masculine feel that you're trying to get away from. Place the two beige chairs on their new wall and angle them towards each other slightly with a small table in between - similar to your first inspiration photo. I also agree with Grover that the piano player should face into the room when playing.

This is a lovely. little seating group. Turn the piano so the pianist is in the corner and put this group in front of the window.

The measurement of the sitting area is 6x8 feet.

The measurement of the piano area is 5x7feet

The measurement of the small wall is 7'7x4.35 feet

The measurement of the long wall is 7'7x9 feet

Thank you very much for the input. I guess I will try looking for a rug until I find one I like to make the room black/ grey/ white theme.

Thank you very much for all the help. I appreciated it very much.

Black and white with a touch of color - has the flow and feel of music, maybe even a "piano-ish" shape but without being too obvious or cliched as an actual piano or music picture.

It's so classy, an oriental is the perfect rug and please turn the piano. It's facing a wall instead of the room, not a good look.

If the purpose of this room is for the audience to listen to the music, the piano is placed appropriately.

    The Piano

If you already have a piano, draw a scale outline of its floor measurements and use it with the floor plan to ascertain the best location. If you don't have the piano yet, the floor plan will illustrate your available space. From the front of the keyboard to the back, a "baby" grand piano measures 5 feet or under, a "boudoir" grand piano measures 5 to 7 feet, while a "concert" grand is around 9 feet. The grand piano is likely to be the focal point of the room, so ensure that other furniture doesn’t crowd it. A smaller grand with plenty of space around it will look more impressive than a large one squished among other furniture.

    Piano Location

There are a few do's and don'ts when it comes to positioning a piano. While it may look attractive to place it in front of a window, never expose the piano to direct sunlight. This will cause fading and can affect the value. In older properties, avoid positioning the piano on an outside wall, as changes in temperature and humidity can damage it. In houses that are younger than around 80 years, this should not be such a problem, but leave a good 12-inch gap between piano and wall. Also, avoid placing the piano near a radiator or other heat source.

    Other Considerations

A grand piano has a hinged lid that opens on one side to let out the sound. The open side of the lid should face the seating area, or at least toward the center of the room. Avoid placing the seating on the other side of the piano, as the acoustics will suffer. If the living room is very large and the seating area is some distance from the piano – near the television, for example – or if you want to create a small, dedicated music area, position an ottoman in the curved area of the piano.

Thank you very much for all the suggestions. Looking at many rugs from many sites made me very confused and don't know what to choose after all.

Since the piano I have in the room occupies almost half of the room, I'm not sure if it looks good to put a rug only under the piano or sitting area. This is a rug (5'x8') I found (no cowhide since one of my family member says no to cowhide so this one is 60% Viscose and 40% leather), and all my family member likes this rug, and I find that it goes with the seats we have. Although I wanted to make this room black/grey/white, if I choose this rug, what wall art and other decorations go with it?

If I can find a rug that is more white would be nice though.....

Its really hard to judge the color of rugs online. I would recommend ordering the smallest rug size for each of the rugs you are considering. View them all together in the space with your furnishings, floor, wall color and then make a decision. You can then return these smaller rugs and get the full-sized version of the one you want.
