Where do you put your dry, dirty towels before you wash them?

In our MB, I was advised/convinced to put a low basket by the towel bars and sink so people could drop their soiled towels and washcloths in it. That seemed to work until someone dropped a wet washcloth in ithe basket and covered it up with a dirty towel. Within that same week we had mold growing on the washcloth, the covering/adjoining towel, and the basket. Ugh!

I will confess I never quite liked the aesthetics though. Woven baskets are just too casual for this bathroom IMHO much like wire baskets would be too "industrial."

In the past, I've had a hamper, but they too can develop an untraceable odor. And, they tend to take up more floorspace.

I use a variety of wire and metal baskets in my bathrooms to hold used face towels that are used as one time use towels to wipe your hands. I have a variety of styles but they lean more contemporary. I have never had mold with this setup. I also have the Korbo basket in the kitchen for kitchen towels that are used as one time use towels instead of paper towels.

I actually used the umbrella holder version of this can because it was narrow and fit my bathroom better - trash cans from Blomus

    Good luck!

I do not like to leave towels and washcloths sitting in a hamper. I wash them quickly after they are used. Avoids mold, smells, etc.

With only two of us, it takes a while to get a load of towels and washcloths together. I picked up a smallish steel white enameled hamper/wastecan that has two rounded decorative rubber bands, one at the bottom, one at the top next to the rolled steel rim. It is rather old-fashioned looking, and you would expect it to say its purpose in fancy print on it, like, "Laundry"

If the washcloth is still wet, I either hang it from a towel rack until it is dry, or hang it on the side of the can.

Homepro, I am not the OP, but you sold me on your laundry baskets. I have ordered from Scandinavia. Thank you!

    Rita,

I am glad I was able to help! Enjoy the baskets:-)

To answer OP's question, my towels stay hung up on the towel bars until they get picked up and put into the laundry bin in the utility room. I change my towels about three times per week- sometimes four. I don't use a washcloth. I use a loofah, so there is nothing super wet to deal with anyway.

We have pull outs that have wire bins in them (similar to trash pullouts). Had one in our last house that had a canvas liner thing that you could use as a laundry bag. In the new house, we skipped those. I'm always a little paranoid abou someone putting a saturated washcloth in there, but with just 2 adults in the house, that hasn't happened. I will lay a damp washcloth over the side of the metal basket and let it try there, though.

After various hamper debacles, we have a 3-bin cloth hamper in the laundry room, and a towel rod to hang wet towels to dry before they get placed in the hamper.

All dirty clothes and towels go in the laundry ASAP.

I drape them on the tub edge to dry, then I toss mine in the tub until there are enough to wash (goes to show you how much we use the bathtub!). Our bathroom is not for display so it doesn't bother me that it's not "perfect" once in awhile. Plus, no room for a hamper or anything like that.
