HELP!!! New home: Need so much new stuff and area rug help!

We have just upgraded to new home with MUCH more space and sq footage. All rooms need new decor/furniture, but most important today is Family Room.

Beige sectional (pictured below, catalog photo) is being deliver next week, but need to commit to an area rug color/design (probably 9x12) to anchor the room and determine decor/accessories.

Also, need: TV console (corner or wall for 52")

Coffee Table

Artwork/Mantel decor/Accessories

Sofa Table???

    What is the room size?

what is the size of sectional..depth and length of both sides?

looks to me line you will need a much bigger rug.

I agree that you will need a much larger rug to do justice to that room. I would pick a color that is not too much lighter than the color of the floor or it will look glaring. The catalog photo gives a good idea of tonal values, and the design of that rug is much more pleasing than a strong geometrical design that will overwhelm everything else. I would put this room together carefully and slowly, making sure first that you get the rug right for your beautiful new sofa and use your old pieces for now, and send us more pictures. It will be much easier to visualize what else needs to be done when you've made a start.

I always like TV's in the middle of the room, but i think with the design of the sofa, I would keep it in the corner.

Ingrid, where did you find those first two rugs? I want one, lol.

Congrats on your new home. What style do you prefer in your new space as I do not see any Ideabooks on your site as it would be helpful to communicate your likes and dislikes or what look you are seeking. Obviously you like blue as the TV stand you are interested in. What will be the main purpose and function of the space and for how many people? Need more info before choosing materials.

The photos of consoles....which are great by the way, would look best if on the wakk perpincular to the wall with the fireplace.

You could float yoursectional so that it faces that wall. Then you can add something to either side of the fireplace.

here are some examples to give you an idea of layout with tv on blank wall.

Robin can we get some feedback? Have you made any decisions that will help us with our suggestions....

    Home Interiors & Jodie White,

Sorry guys. I'm new to this. Obviously, i need to create an Ideabook! I tend to go more towards muted brown, red, yellow/gold, rust colors (in past), but open to other somewhat neutral palettes. I actually love the console, but was considering an antique cream color (if I could make that work?).

My tastes tend to be traditional, rustic, a little farmhouse (pottery barn, restoration hardware, ballard designs) but with so many current needs, all those in a TIGHT budget!

Aktillery9, i do like all of those looks. My husband did just tell me, due to wiring, there is chance we may not be able to mount on flat wall as i hoped, so i may be forced to go back to corner console again. :(

When I get a chance, I'll post some of my fav looks.

So do you want Blue? Or just layers of neutrals? My idea board that a I posted has all neutrals other than pillows...what if any would be your color choice?

Oh believe me that TV can go on that wall..sometimes as long as a cable box is in one room of your home a TV can go anywhere and wireless..keep working on that!:) no angled furniture allowed:))

Not a huge fan of blue, but open to more of a neutral cream/blue palette. I tend to go toward the warm colors, red, brown, golden yellow, burnt muted Orange.

My biggest struggle immediately is the rug. I've seen neutral shag on many boards, but have seen a few I like with design, still would stay bery neutral colors.

I like the TV console posted with your sectional on largest wall across from windows. I like the neutral palette with textures and angles to give the space depth. I see your brown bar stools at the bar are they staying as well? Lots of advice coming your way, hang on. Great space to work, have fun as the process is part of the design journey, that being said enjoy the ride.

I guess I was thrown off when you mentioned you liked the blue media cabinet!:)

here is one of my fav combinations...gray..neutral..muted gold/mustard with a few black accents....lots of layered neutrals..

You mention that you are looking at shag rugs. I've had a large one and just a FYI- they look beautiful but they matt down, especially where people sit, and are a pain to vacuum.
