Need suggestions on furniture

last modified: 8 years ago

Hi, I am in the process of furnishing my house and need some suggestions on dining rooms. I

was thinking about a trestle table with grey/beige fabric chairs but not sure what color wood I should go with. Thinking of a dark weathered grey, espresso etc. As seen in pics below my house is an open concept. I am not bound to keeping the couch as it’s defective and being exchanged but I do want a reclining sectional. Suggestions please.

oh I also need to get a backsplash

thanks

I was just thinking about this thread yesterday, wondering...

I’m changing my cabinets to white. Just trying to figure out if I’m painting my current kitchen or swapping out the doors and drawers for a different style and painting the frames to that color.

I just bought a dining set and now I wasn’t limited to color because white matches everything. Waiting on delivery for it . Just hoping the chairs are ok with my kids so I’m having some reservations about it but love the rustic look

As for a couch, omg I been through too many. I bought the one below but sent it back.
I loveeee the style but it’s not comfy and cozy so I think I’m limited to a reclining sectional since we spend a lot of time in this room, well my kids do lol so off to couch shopping again

I think you'll finally be happy changing the cabinets. Lazeboy has a new reclining sofa called the DUO. Have no idea of comfort. They look nice, you could probably get 2 2seaters or the 3 seater and chairs...https://www.la-z-boy.com/content/duo

Thanks for the update, can't wait to see it.

Agreed. The cabinets were hindering me from getting the look that I want.
Love that couch from Lazyboy. Thank you! I will check it out.

I’ll keep u all posted as soon as changing are made.

oh, this is great. love that table! and so excited to get to get accessories now! see the light over the table you bought, you should do something like that in silver over your table.

Yes I love them at light!! Was thinking the same thing. Maybe a pewter color?

no match it to the kitchen stuff, satin nickel or stainless look, will help keep the flow over there and give a little modern edge to the table.

Ok that makes sense. Thanks. Does this table look traditional? The nail heads on the chair i wasn’t too sure about. I’m not going for a traditional look

I got my dining room. I can make time as large as in pick or smaller.

Waiting for refinished if cabinets to show me sample paints tomorrow.

On the search for a nice grey reclining sectional that is reasonably priced and no luck so far
  • 7 years ago

You did well with that. It has clean lines and is nice and neutral.

Very nice. I'm so happy for you.

Thank you guys!! The couch is my biggest problem lol

Ok so I just added some wall art to my dining room and I need some opinions on the middle piece. It’s mirrored artwork and reflects my kitchen and patio window. When I purchased this in the catalog it didn’t look like mirror. I love the piece but not sure if the reflections are making it look less appealing.

I’ll add some pics and closeups as well from
    different angles.
I’m still in the process of getting the kitchens painted white but it’s delayed for around a month.

Let me know what you guys think and if I should replace it. Thanks

So far these are the pillows i choose for the corners of my sectional couch. Need to get some for the wedge.

Janene, check out the Del Mar sectional from Z Gallerie. It comes in a microfiber grey (custom fabric) and is SO comfy and stylish too!

Hi Janene! Good to see you back! Remember I am no designer, I do like that middle piece. (it almost seems a tad big to me, fitting so close inside the molding, but it may not matter?) The ones on the sides seem a bit much to me though. It looks like you still need lighting and decor for your buffet. Have you thought about sconces for the left and right panels? Three pieces of art, or leaving them empty? Once the buffet is decorated, it may be too much. I hope someone with more decorating knowledge will chime in! Your making progress and I like your pillows!

Hi, I was thinking the same thing about the mirror being too much since I like to decorate my buffet. Now those brown pieces I was going to add the faux tea light candles but what don’t you like about those pieces? Thanks

Oh and yes i am looking for a rug lol

So should I add more pillows?

Hello there! So, my initial opinion is that the pieces on either side of your center art is overkill...very much on the heavy side. I would rather see something along the lines of the first picture that Briana shared.

Just seems too heavy to me, and will probably look way to busy with decor on your buffet. I can see that middle piece looking good and reflecting light from a pretty chandelier!

    So keep the middle piece?

Though those pieces (shadow boxes?) are pretty cool, I can see them used somewhere..somehow...

Even 2 look better to me...

Ignore the decor, but see how it gets very busy with that added? I think you could keep the middle piece if you love it. It does make a statement. You also may want to think about your living room colors with the blue and if you want to add a little color in the dining area also. Maybe you are at a place to start a new dining room dilemma?

    Kurln,

If I keep the mirror how would you decorate the buffet without making it too busy?

Also I’m going to add another pic of the dining room with those pieces from a straight on view shortly. I had a party yesterday at my house and everyone loved the wall.
I’m so confused on what to do.
I feel the space is too big for just two pieces.

urgg.......... lose them all! get a light fixture, this will dress the space, and also help you in choosing wall art

Your getting good advice on your new thread. You may look at sconces for the outer parts, or even try one of each of the long ones centered. Like the others have said, once you get your lighting and buffet decorated, it won't look so empty on the sides. You need some negative space on walls. Here's some examples.

The lights, decor, curtains fill the space enough.
    Transitional Home · More Info
Smaller outer pieces (this is almost too much for me)

    Sconces on outside.
    Minnesota Residence · More Info
some empty wall for eyes to rest... Now picture having decor, drapes, lighting.. All that stuff on the walls will be way too much! Don't pay attention to the decor I added, but see how there's no empty spaces at all?
