What fabric to use on chairs with this rug

I fell in love with this rug before I ever thought about chairs to go with it. Now I am kicking myself! I still love the rug but need help picking a fabric to go on two wing chairs.

I am not afraid of pattern on pattern. I have quite a bit of red in my home already but if you all out there think the chairs should be red. I was thinking a yellow with some kind of pattern would be nice.

This photo is true to the colors :-)

Any help would be appreciated!!!

LOL, You are so sweet for commenting!

I had been thinking blue but my living room has two blue pottery barn chairs already. I wasn't sure I wanted to do two more of the same thing.

    Blue.

I would stick with a neutral tweed upholstery on chairs and let the rug and acessories bring in the color.

Can you switch and put the PB chairs in this room?

Oh that would be to strong of a color with the rug..that rug stands alone no need to try to be matching colors in it...just not necessary...I think it will take away from the rug....

Are your chairs dining chairs or occasional chairs? I'd like that
last fabric on dining chairs, but maybe also on occasional chairs. I do
think yellow would complement the rug as well as the blue chairs you
already own, though. Can you post a pic of the chairs you want to
    recover?

I will post a photo of the chairs to be recovered tomorrow :-)

We are having these two wing back chairs recovered. I would like to see a color and not a tan or earth tone. The colors in the rug are bright and vivid. There is a gold tone color in it that I think is very pretty. This room (which is my office) is open to my little dinette that has colonial red chairs and red buffalo checked valances.

I would do a rich deep cherry red velvet...paint the walls in a soft Mustard pant color...with the button back the velvet will look outstanding.

I think stripes are probably the way to go, and gracie's suggestion looks good. Possibly a mostly yellow with blue stripe, or mostly yellow with green stripe, too.

I would do something like this fabric for the chairs and then add pillows with a trim color in the rug.

That would be my first choice to justerilynn.......but smlp45 doesn’t want neutral:(

Similar to this beautiful space..do wingbacks in a neutral like the sofa in this image and add lumbar pillows in a large blue and cream print..so pretty...would really give this room a fresh new style for sure!

What a pretty room Home Interiors!

Wheres Mario Buatta or Albert Hadley

maybe a floral with a blue stripe or something solid with a repeating motif to help relate the rug or one that the background color is mostly red or blue. A stripe would be my choice

Wow!! Thank YOU all for the help! @Gracie01 I love the colors! I was looking at a fabric like this but I have 3 cats and I am so afraid they will think the chairs are a scratching post!

That gold will not make a pretty chair:( would you consider a yellow instead if you have to have color..this is a gorgeous tweed.

    Thank YOU again!

Beautiful fabric! Really a very nice color. I fear this would also be a scratching post for the cats.

@ Home Interiors With Ease, Have you looked at the links that I posted for fabric choices? There is a yellow one with tiny colored spots in it.

I will look at some more of the posted links....most where a very strong gold :(

I will look for the one you are speaking of:)

the fabric I posted is a wool blend so durable..should be a very strong tweed.

My first thought was denim. Then I saw that you had buffalo check valances in an adjacent room, and I *really* wanted denim, lol. Chair, curtains, pillows, whatever. :-D

@One Devoted Dame: I have been looking at denim. I was thinking denim might look too casual???

I don't think that looks at all casual. No wing chair will look casual, even in denim. Inviting, comfortable, and whimsical, yes : ) .

Would this be good even though my little dinette chairs are painted red?

I too thought a fabric like that with a repeating motif. I like the denim

@doverP which fabric do you mean?

And should it be a solid color denim and what color?

Oooooooooh, dover, that denim wingback is good! Sooooo goooood! Dang I want one now, lol.

I agree with becky... No way can a wingback chair really look "too casual." Same with a Chesterfield. You could cover a Chesterfield sofa in dark indigo denim, and it would still be pure awesomeness, even in Buckingham Palace.

And should it be a solid color denim and what color?

The darker, the more formal. Solid, too. If you go with a lighter denim, or a denim with a pattern (stripe, plaid, embroidery), it gives a more casual vibe to me.

[Disclaimer: I am not a pro. Just some random crazy internet chick, lol.]

Edited to add: Just saw the yellow gingham chairs. Those are pretty nifty, too. :-D

yes I already have two. Thank you for paying attention LOL! These look like they are checked in a yellow. CUTE!!

I like the yellow check that HIWE just posted and also like the denim. The gold/yellow with little red dashes (that you posted at 7:58 pm yesterday) seems much too intense with that rug. I also like the suggested neutrals.

I want to Thank everyone for your input!

I would most certainly do the blue denim if I didn't already have two blue canvas chairs in my living room. I love the yellow check and am now in search for one that is affordable. I wish Joann stores carried checked fabrics.

Thanks to all again! I will return once I get these covered and post a picture :-)

How funny, I was just thinking,,, do I like this look because of the black wood??? So maybe if the yellow is on my wing chair it might not look so good ??
