Sliding Door or Picture Window/Door combo

We are renovating our house and need advice on living room glass doors which looks into our backyard. Living room wall is 22ft, we are in dilemma in choosing between two 8ft sliding doors side by side or 3 picture window/Door combo as shown in the attached pictures.(Both of them give approx 16ft clear glass). Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Do you have an outdoor space you use frequently for large gatherings? If so, a single swinging door can become a bottleneck. A big slider or pair of French doors would be more effective.

Thanks for your advice. We have a good 60x80ft grass backyard which we plan to use for entertaining and maybe a pool later. And the style of the house we are building is more on the transitional/modern style. French door might be more suitable for traditional homes and they are about the same cost as big sliders.

I like the large sliders they do not require space to open on either the inside or outside.I would go with the 2 sliders

I say the 2 sliders as well.

Consider the weather/climate. If you have harsh winters, don't put in a whole wall of doors. They let in cold air. If you have a more temperate climate, the two sliders look better.

    Have you considered folding doors?

i'd base my decision on how often you go in and out with the a/c on inside... i find a swing door is better for that. if you leave the door stand open frequently, i like the screens on sliders better. but top consideration is what sort of window treatments are you thinking of, will they be closed for heat/light mediation even tho you are going in and out, that will def. drive your door decision too.

Thanks for all the inputs. We are building in temperate climate (Atlanta, GA). Considered the Bi Folding doors, multisliders and Bi-Parting sliders, they are above my budget limit.

We are leaning towards two sliders next to each other, only thing stopping me is the wall in between them. Do you all know what is the minimize width i can get away with?

you can have them adjacent, latching into each other, with the right sized header. we had two sets of 6' pellas, when both doors were open we had a 6' opening, great for moving a grand piano in and out. but... the downside is they were a little finicky getting them open and closed. i wouldnt recommend that route if you go in and out frequently.

sure... this is a photo from our listing when we sold in '09, so pardon the 'decorating in amber'.

Thank You. I didn’t know the two sliders can be joined to look as one. I was always thinking it needed some kind of wall in between.

They can if there is a large enough header to carry the load, a lot of garage doors are 16'.

there wasnt much weight above the sliders. the beam mid-room was a much larger deal, as that supported the floor above.

the living room in fact used to be a 2 car garage.. we built a larger garage in the back.

Thanks for all the advice. Now the dilemma we are having is if 16ft bi parting sliders are too big for a 22ft living room wall. Concern is it will pretty much open the whole room. But we see that most of the new constructions are opening as much as possible to give the wow factor. Consulted couple real estate agents and they feel it will help in resale later by having a 16ft slider. Any advice is appreciated.

Sounds like you have been given good advice already, and I think it will be fine as well.

I am of the opinion that you can never have too many windows, at least from an aesthetic viewpoint. In a modern home, a wall of glass should fit right in.
