What kind of rug is this? What rugs would work in close proximity?

I have this rug in my family room:

it is very open to my kitchen (basically one open room) I would like to put a rug under the kitchen table, and possibly a couple of runners behind the island.

I don't know what kind to look for to work with the one I have.

Would these work? or what kind is mine? anyone know? I for some reason think Heriz, but I have no idea if that is right :)

I don't know nuttin about rugs, but I'm answering anyway :-) I looked on ebay for Heriz rugs and this popped up. Looks very similar to yours -hopefully someone who really knows will answer you. Your family room rug is gorgeous! The other two you posted are also nice but I don't really see them complementing your rug very well. They just seem too different to me; the last one seems very flowery and the first just seems too different, the pattern too ?? muddy, maybe?? to set off your more crisp and almost geometrical design. What size do you need and your budget?

eta: I'm not suggesting the above rug, just showing what ebay says is a Heriz rug. I was looking around some more and saw this, which I think would be gorgeous with your existing rug (I think the background on yours is navy?), but probably not at all what you are looking for, but I had to post it. It's from Ethan Allen

    Thanks finallyhome and Oly!!!!!!

Hmmm I think I was trying to match the colors more than the pattern and I need to take in to account both is what you are saying :) that makes sense to me.

I think I want more color than just navy. I will measure - I don't know why my tape measures always seem to vanish!

It is hard to find rugs without much red. The one in my family room is navy with green and pink I would say. I used to have it with a pink couch two houses ago.

After looking at a gazillion rugs while I'm listening to my podcasts and drinking my coffee, I thought I found a perfect one! Alas, already sold AND 17K. I came back here and looked at your posted possible choices again and that first (edited to write the correct number) one, while very different, might work just fine. Can you try it? The colors seem perfect compared to any others I've seen. The second one just seems too flowery.

Initially, I didn't think it lived up to the "extraordinary" look of your existing rug, but maybe you only need it to be beautiful (which it is) and coordinate (which it does).

that is nice nosoccermom - where is it from? Oly you are too sweet! I was looking off and on yesterday too. I think those are pretty rugs I posted, but they are not the "one" :) I really like this one for some reason. It is a Karastan.

I quickly looked at www.rugsusa.com, figuring that for a kitchen, you may not want to shell out big bucks.

I don't think the new rug has to match in pattern, just coordinate in color and the more nebulous "feel." I think Boopadaboo's first option would be a great fit. I didn't like the second option as well; it downplays the blues too much, and the lighter border gives it a very different feel.

    Hi Boopadaboo,

your Rug is probably a Tabriz from Persia, known as a " 30 raj ", but to be sure an expert has to see it local. You should look for a rug where the border ( frame ) color is the same as like the inside field/ground color. You can see your rug differs in this with mostly all others. If you keep attention on this, you shouldnt make anything wrong. A nice suggestion could be a allover ( like your current design) red rug.

Very helpful Farhadian. turns out I have three rugs with the border color the same as the field. I think I like this best. gives me something to narrow down when I am looking.

Ok sales today, and very very cold floors so I am looking at rugs. I still think I prefer wool, but see a cheap one that is synthetic too. reminder this is the family room rug (Navy with light blue, dark and light green and hot pink.)

what do you think of these two? :

option 1 - wool - $450 - that funky triangle bothers me a bit, but it will be under a table.

    option 2 - synthetic, $150

also debating on runners. I just like rugs underfoot and HATE this tile. :) maybe option 2 under the table and option 1 as a runner by the sink? could they possibly work together?

For these prices I have to say I am tempted to go synthetic! these are available in runners too:

    Hi Boopadaboo,

sorry for delay, we were on a exhibition. The "fancy" triangle rug is a nomadic design. I am not sure if i understood you correctly, but if you need two more rugs + the current navy blue rug then i would NOT recomend to keep the frame colour same as the inside field colour on all three rugs, it could get too old. I thought you was just talking about 1 more rug to add to your current navy blue rug, here then you would had to pay more attention to build a harmony.

The one with the big "fancy" triangle is a very interesting original design, but it could be to much for this pupose, but i am not sure.

The last one, the runner looks nice, could match with the blue navy, the cost of it is not so high as it is syntetic, so you also dont risk so much.

If you would pay more for original handmade rugs, then you would need advices of the local rug dealer.

If you have further questions, bring them up.

    Best,

    Rahim Farhadian
