Need Help - Blue Staining on Bathroom Marble Tile

My housekeeper used Kaboom Foaming scrubber to clean our master shower. The floor is a Carrera marble that had been sealed when we moved into the house 18 months ago. Tonight we found small blue spots on some of the tiles. How do I get it out?!?! I have tried gentle dawn dish detergent and magic eraser. both failed. Any poultice recommendations? other advice?

You can see the blue on tile here.

What color is the grout supposed to be? Have you addressed the issue with your cleaning lady? This is why I supply all cleaning supplies to my cleaning lady. Maybe a baking soda poultice will work.

The grout is the light gray color. These photos were taken after a shower, and grout still wet in some areas. I called the company that makes the sealer used to seal the floor (Miracle 511) and they suggested one of their poultice products. Will go to a tile store that carries it tomorrow and also pick their brain. Thanks!

The liquid poultice did a decent job. Got the blue 80% out. Tested a small area with the Miracle powdered poultice and that worked great!

First photo is after the liquid poultice. Second is the current state of my shower floor. We are letting it sit for 48 hours. I promise to post the final result!

I thought I had the solution in hand... the poultice seemed to have solved the problem - no more blue.

But, as I was removing the most recent poultice application, I noticed that the spots I had initially treated Thursday-Friday (that I thought were gone) are back... they took over 25 hours to re-emerge. I don’t know why...

**UPDATE**: We think the culprit it the Thymolphthalein blue agent in the kaboom that functions like invisible ink. The poultice dries it out combating the ph balance, but when humidity returns so does the stain.

Will likely do another few rounds of the poultice and hope that takes care of our “smurf” spots.

    Other Recommendations welcome!

I am having the same problem that you had With similar marble floor tiles. Can you post an update as to what else you’ve done. I was going to buy the products that you used. Thank you so much!

We did about 10 applications of the powdered poultice. It got gradually better but not 100%. we eventually used some vinegar to counteract the agent causing the blue stains. We used a toothbrush to apply. It etched a few tiles but minimally. The blue was driving us nuts- with all the things that get hammered onto the floor (shampoo, body wash, etc.) the minimal etching isn’t terrible.

    Good luck!!

Thank you! It’s driving me nuts too amd it seems to be spreading across the tiles. My poltice should be in tomorrow. i don’t exactly know what etching looks like but it has to look better than blue. thank you for your help!

Did you make a vinegar solution or just straight white vinegar and scrubbed with a toothbrush?

Hi shawn i have brand new marble and the same thing has happenEd - please give me an update as to the vinegar solution

The white vinegar worked great. I put it in a spray bottle and sprayed it frequently, maybe once or twice a day for about 2 weeks and it’s stopped bleeding out now.

So does white vinegar seem to work better than any poultice? It stained my marble and grout....

@Maggie - the white vinegar definitely had the biggest impact, but not without consequences. It will etch your marble. For us, the etching was minimal. We thought it was a better trade off for the blue tiles. If you are overly concerned about etching, stick to the poultice - it will take patience and multiple applications, but should work.

Thank you for all the posts and updates pictures help tremedously! I’ve been having similar issues and now figured its the Kaboom😠😩 ugh!! kaboom was iused on the glass but now I know it’s wherever it dripped to the mosaic travertine/marble tiles on the floor, it showed as blue. My brand new master bath😭

I will try the Poultice as etching will not feel good on the feet while standing in the shower. Do I need to use both part A and Part B on the same day? thank you!

We had success lifting stains from our marble floor with a 12% hydrogen peroxide and paper towel poultice. It took about 48 hours, and now it looks like new. The peroxide will not etch marble like vinegar will.

Thank you! I will definitely be trying that. did you just mix in pieces of paper towel with the peroxide to make the poultice

Yes, soak the paper towel in peroxide. Put maybe 5-8 layers of the soaked paper towel over the stain. For mine we left it covered in plastic wrap for 24-36 hours to let the peroxide bleach out the stain and then took off the plastic and let it dry for 12-24 hours so that the paper towel would lift it out. Then remove the paper towel when dry. Good luck! I was pretty sad to have our gorgeous marble/grout stained, and ecstatic to see the end result.

So I chose not to take a before photo of mine because it was the floor around my boys’ toilet. So yeah you can imagine. Here is the after photo though. Like it never happened!

Wow!! just like magic😊 the added bonus to getting rid of the blueing is tgat the delicate tile does’t etch like it would with vinegar!
