So I’m just beginning to research mid price induction ranges,

This is what I was told when I went into a well reputed appliance store:

1) none ever come with knobs, I questioned his statement further, he confirmed this was the case through the industry from GE to Miele etc.

2) most have 9 control settings very few have 1/2 steps, and they are generally not needed or used.

3) none have self clean due to the sensitive electronics and due to manufacturers wanting to keep shipping weights low.

My research on this forum does not appear to support his statements.

I just bought the Samsung chef collection induction range after a lot of research. It has serious knobs and a self cleaning oven. Mine has 10 settings, and I have not yet felt like I needed more. So far I’m happy with it. The Bosch also has knobs I know because that was my other option.

The Bosch doesn’t have knobs. It has half increments and self cleaning. The new Bosch models looks to have better control with the whole range of settings available on the touchpad vs having to press +/- buttons multiple times.

Mine is Electrolux, has self cleaning and half increments plus more at the lower settings. I like and use the more granular settings but you might well get along fine without that. No knobs. I use self cleaning as little as possible as I do think it tends to burn up the electronics. Plus I’ve just never liked how hot they get with the self clean cycle.

I have an LG induction range with knobs and a self-cleaning feature. The knobs offer 9 different settings, which has been enough for me so far. An induction range with knobs was very important to me, and I love the one I found. Apparently it's available on costco.com, but I have no idea what the price is (I'm in Canada) - but it's not a "high end" appliance.

My GE (non-induction) range is 13 years old. It has mechanical controls for the cooktop, electronic for the oven. I use self-clean with no failures thus far.

Miele Induction Range has knobs but I would not call it mid-priced.

Someone on this forum wrote up a review on the Bosch induction range and it was quite positive. I'm a Bosch fan.

You are speaking of the current Bosch induction ranges? That r[eview can be found here[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/brief-review-of-newest-bosch-induction-range-hiip055u-dsvw-vd~4725146), and it discusses both the $3600 "Benchmark" model (HIIP055u) and the $2800 "800DLX" model (HII8055u). (The versions for the Canadian market have the same model numbers but they end in "c.")

Just noticed that Sue McGrath had the impression that Bosch has an induction range with knobs. Actually, Bosch's "knob" controlled model is a radiant electric stove, not induction, but search engines sometimes display it with the induction ranges for folks searching for info on "Bosch Induction Range." A couple of months ago, we had a thread that discussed the confusion this creates; yet another annoying internet quirk.

I'm following this thread with interest. I inherited an absolute crap gas range when we bought our house last year and after two Thanksgivings where the oven wouldn't get above 350 and at least one burner crapped out mid-cook, I am ready to get a new one. I like gas but I'm also considering induction.

My KitchenAid KFID5000 induction double oven free standing range has high-temp, pyrolitic self clean--the real deal, not Aqualift. I wouldn't have a range with that at all. The KitchenAid slide-in Induction has Aqualift and I wouldn't select that one just for that reaso0n.

As long as we’re all discussing unusual induction ranges, are there ANY 48” models?

Thank you all so very much for taking the time to give valuable information.

@jwvideo..you asked what I consider mid priced..anything under 3,000 would be awesome. DH prefers closer to 2k. Your information is very helpful, thank you.

@toronto veterinarian. I am in Ottawa and looked into the LG from Costco.ca, they no longer sell it. It’s risky to buy an appliance in Usa due to warranty issues, they won’t be honoured if transported cross border.

Re aqua lift.. thank you all for clarifying and confirming my thoughts on this. The salesman insisted that this was as good as self clean, he was quite convincing. I certainly appreciate the wisdom and experience of each and every one of you.

The other thing the sales guy said “bosh has two lines, one is made in China, so Chinese crappy, their other line in Germany. Anyone have any comments on this.

I agree -- I didn't realize you were in Canada. I wouldn't buy from the US either; I bought mine at a local appliance store (Tasco).

I used the 36" GE induction for 2 years. Finally pulled it out and replaced that hunk of junk with Miele. I am a happy camper now.

    I haven't heard that.

You haven't heard that because you have not been frequenting "post-factual" websites. :>)

Strikes me that the sales guy has a real flair for the inaccurate, particularly when it comes to induction products from Bosch.

For induction in the North American market. the company has four lines for cooktops which are the 300 line, the 500 line, the 800 line, and the Benchmark line; each of the latter two lines includes an induction range. These products for the North American market are made in North Carolina, not Germany or China. As are Bosch's dishwashers for the North American market. (Tho, Bosch used to source a couple of its highest end Benchmark models from Germany and might still do so.)

Now, microwave ovens would be a different story. Only, there aint "two lines." No Germans make any of the Bosch-branded nukers for the North American market. Bosch gets its residential microwave ovens from the same factories in China, Thailand, Malaysia and South Korea that make them for everybody else.

IIRC, there were some threads here a few years back on Bosch sourcing some of its side-by-side fridges first from the South Korean conglomerate Daewoo and then from one of the big Chinese factories. Other Bosch fridges were made for Bosch by Whirlpool here and in Mexico. Not sure where the current Bosch fridges come from. Somewhere (Yale Appliance Blog?) I think I saw an industry report saying that Bosch and its corporate stablemate, Thermador, currently source their fridges from Acerlik, a manufacturing conglomerate based in Turkey but having factories in Turkey, Romania, Russia, China, South Africa and Thailand.

Nothing like the simplistic "Chinese crap and German whatever," eh?

As a complete and utter aside, I think Amana (now owned by Whirlpool) is still making microwave ovens in the USA and doing so in Iowa. However, those all seem to be commercial food service products rather than consumer/residential ones.

Meanwhile..... back at the point of this thread .... so, PG, let us know how your stove search goes.
