Downton Abbey Rose: Anna's Promise

This is my first season growing 6 bushes of Anna's Promise. They are fairly vigorous here in Northern California but susceptible to black spots, particularly towards the end of August/beginning of September. It is still blooming in my yard now at the end of November. In 9 months they have grown to about 4 &1/2 feet (the tallest of the 6 bushes has grown to 5 feet tall).

When I purchased this rose, the description said “rounded form” but this rose is inclined to shoot straight up. The very next year after planting, a stem the thickness of my thumb shot up 3 feet making me wonder if I’d bought the right rose. That said, the colors are just glorious & ever changing. They start of as dark orange buds & then transition from yellows to bright orange with flecks of fuchsia pinks. Here in Seattle the blooms lasted about 6 days in June. See photos on day 2, 4 & 6.

Oh my goodness . What a beautiful rose . Lucky you to have so many blooms this time of year .It looks like you scored. I love that color. Hopefully ad it matures the BS issue will resolve itself

Hi Manasi, I agree Anna's Promise is not a "round" bush. My original 6 posted above shot up straight, pretty much like a grandiflora. They have nice foliage though. This year I got 4 Easy Does it. They do look like Anna's Promise but with 3 differences. First, leaves on Anna's are a darker green. Second is that Easy Does it does not grow like a grandiflora but grow more round, more like a floribunda. Third, my Easy Does it are still quite short now and no more than 2 feet tall at this point (planted in early February this year), but Anna's Promise shot up to > 5 feet within the first year and this year it is certainly going to be even taller. I love orange roses!

Easy Does It can be kept to about 3’ high, but I have let it get about 4’ high. This winter was tough so my EDI is shorter than it would be at this time.

My 2 EDI are in pots. At 2 1/2 years, I bet they are around 2 ft. I bet if they were in the ground they would be taller. They are one of the Roses that make me smile.

@User Easy Does It doesn’t have yellow in it. It’s completely salmon colored. This is Easy Does It. 1st bloom of the season:

Thank you Jazzmom, So that means mine isn't Easy Does It? My rose definitely has yellow in the center. The suspense continues. . . lol I appreciate your comment very much Jazzmom.
