If everything goes right and I acquire the property I am trying to get then I would be happy to get a chainsaw and chainsaw mill for Christmas. Probably not the answer you are looking for though. :)

Honestly, I prefer older tools rather than new gadgets. Whenever I can I look for rusty old stuff at antique stores and flea markets and whatnot. Even if the stuff can't be used it is fun to look at and collect (although I prefer it in usable condition).

Hi Marcy! Can you give us a price range you are looking for and maybe what types of things your BIL likes to grow.

One of my favorite veggies is garlic and the 'Complete Book of Garlic' by Ted Meredith is a must for anyone garlic obsessed. My favorite gardening tool is my stirrup hoe also known as a scuffle hoe. A gift certificate for his favorite seed vendor would also be an idea.

Does your BIL just like vegetable gardening? Myself I like to try growing unique plants or vegetables. Some of them do great while I suck at others. Someone mentioned a gift card. Rare or unique seeds , plants or tubers would be something I would enjoy.

Is he an experienced gardener? Veggies, roses, perennials, or other? I actually do not appreciate receiving horticultural type gifts unless exactly what I asked for. A gift card would be delightful in that sense.

Gift card to a good garden/nursery would be appreciated. Other ideas: Felco pruners always treasured, Hori Hori Garden knife, good leather gloves...... lots more ideas - depends on your budget.

I can always use more string, fleece, netting and bamboo poles in the vegetable garden. I have been given mimsy little seed ‘kits’ by well meaning givers in the past and they always make me feel guilty because I know they’ll be useless but feel obliged to sow them..

You guys have some fantastic ideas!! He's been growing a spring, summer, and fall garden since I've know him......and he was only 9 or 10 then! He has garlic planted now, but annually grows tomatoes, squashes, okra, beans, potatoes, a variety of greens, purple hull peas, etc.... I like the stirrup hoe idea and found them on Amazon for under $20 so I can get him a gift card at he local nursery to finish him up. They have both plants and seeds there. I went ahead and ordered the hoe for DH too, along with some bamboo poles and netting to keep the blackbirds out of our spring plantings. You guys are great! Thanks so much for the input!!!
