Do plum purple, olive green and light blue go together?

last modified: 12 years ago
I want to paint my bedroom plum purple and off white, with splashes of olive green and light, almost turquoise blue. I see purple, green and light blue together, but what I am wondering is if plum would go with those colors. Oh yeah, and in the picture below there would be more blue and green.

don't u guys think that blue is the wrong tone?
Well, we are following the thread lol
Jayme, yes that blue is the wrong tone.
I kinda agree with Jayme regarding the shade of blue. I actually like the shades shown in the pic by the OP. The turquoise blue feels a little off to me.
It is indeed Jayme Hobbs, if you look on the now defunct "identical post" she asked about the blues and I old her that it should be a very, very pale blue painted on ceiling only , if used. The other colors listed there didn't include the ones here.

See? That is what happens when there are two posts. This could have been settled hours ago.

But, this was fun, in a weird way. :>)

Yes, you can make it work... Pic for inspiration. Good Luck!

Relocating them here so you can tell me how sweet I am for looking them all up, ladies :)
I said the blue needed to be paler than these.

Yeah, I'm easy too ................. but definitely NOT cheap!!!! OK coffee at my place, but you have to hang curtains.

Miranda - you are invited too, what better way to solve your dilemma.

Genevieve - am I missing something? What bumpy finish are you talking about??

So back to the problem - Miranda, looking at your space and the colours it is presently painted, I think I would be very brave and paint the whole space plum with white ceiling and trims. I think the shape of this room lends itself to a 'cave' look, just don't go too dark a shade so you lose the actual colour. Maybe pick your blues and greens first and then look for the plum shade that goes with them best.

Have you checked this ideabook - and a few more photos to consider

mforr, you have gone above and beyond the call of duty!
Ahh, feel better now. Thanks for the coffee, ladies

mforr, that is so sweet of you!

Great picks mforr. I particularly like the Tupelo Tree or Rural Green w/ the purple shade. Completely agree with your blue suggestions too. Which one was your strongest contender?

And don't forget a biscotti for your effort ;-)

Studio10001, Now I am complete, lol. That's all I needed, my little pat on the head. :)

I liked the hearts of palm and a paled version of the two lightest blues. I thought the plum tone was dark enough.

I think we may be on a similar page mforr. I think I just liked the slightly darker shades of green because they reminded me of an outfit I once had in the plum and green!
It's a nice combination, I like them too. If the room was bigger I would have gone for the deeper greens.

Love Natalie's suggestion with the bed bath and beyond bedding, all of the colors you mentioned go great together, that was a nice visual.
Put Natalie's bedding in my paint swatch room, shake, pour over ice and you've got a really cool bedroom! :)
Yeah, maybe I wont do such a bright blue, maybe lighter.
I don't want to do black or such a cool purple, I want it to be warm.
Maybe like a shade in between my plum and your purple. I also do agree with mforr's latest comment, about her colors and natalie's bedding! I love it!
Ohhhh! We've moved on to cocktails. Hot diggity!

I do love Natalie's bedding in mforr's paint swatch. My apologies if this has been covered but what shades will the furniture be?
I think the whole thing will depend on the shade of plum you choose. Plum seems to go from a deep pink to an aubergine and into a full on purple and the blues and greens you can mix vary accordingly.

mforr - you move too fast, coffee one minute and cocktails the next.
This thread is moving too fast for me. Miranda, agree with you on keeping to warmer colours. I really like the very first plum you started here with. The blues mforr posted will look best with it and although they are cool colours they will balance the warmth of the plum. The green shades will add further warmth and the whole thing will balance out well.

How are these, or am I getting too pinkish?

OMG this thread has completely deteriorated! What fun!
Hahaha - it will be another Saturday night party here soon. Pity I haven't even made lunch yet.

I like the Grandeur Plum, I think that is closest to the first shade Miranda posted. Framboise I would worry would go too black in the space.
Well, I'm taking my tired eyes away from screen for the rest of the night, I'm cross eyed from all of this! I think I agree with framboise. But I sure do love the deeper plums, delicious. I'll check back on this tomorrow, nite all :)

Oh, and mforr - I like the framboise. It actually looks more plum to me than the one labeled plum does!
    Well done, houzz

    Is framboise a liquor?

Framboise = French for raspberry:-). Cointreau is a great liqueur

OK, maybe I'm having one of those weeks -- but every time I'm hearing the mention of cocktails my little ears are perking up!
O K… a delicious vanilla ice cream, with fresh raspberries, a little Framboise poured over top and dark chocolate shavings. Call me.
