Stainless steel sink
Comments (3)Personally I much prefer a large single undermount sink for large pots. If you want a double I would choose 60/40 (or if there is a 70/30 option which I think there is I would choose that). I also believe you can get doubles where the separation is pretty low so it does not interfere as much with washing large pots. I always had double sinks before we renovated our kitchen and it was one of the main things I wanted to change....See MoreThis or That: Nonstick VS Stainless Steel
Comments (150)I use Cuisinart stainless steel pots and cast iron pans. The cast iron is great for stovetop to oven corn bread, stews, etc. If you get a SS or cast iron pan hot enough before adding a little oil, even eggs won't stick. However acid foods like tomatoes will remove the accumulated "seasoning" on the pan, so then I'll use the ceramic coated cast iron dutch oven. My pan of choice would be deBuyer's carbon steel. When properly seasoned, it becomes nonstick. Pricey though. My daughter keeps a small one in her camping supplies for cooking over a fire. Wish I could find a used one. I threw out all non-stick years ago when we owned a cockatiel bird. Figured what's bad for the bird can't be much better for me. That's about the same time I tossed the microwave oven. Eastern medicine dictates that SLOW cooking is the healthiest. Still using my 37 year old crock pot!...See MoreKeep a cultured marble tub?
Comments (14)Cultured marble is typically manufactured using a stainless steel or fiberglass mold. The mold is waxed and polished, then a gel coat is sprayed that will provide the slick finish on the surface. Countertops, lavatories, etc., are poured upside down. The cultured marble is a mixture of fine marble dust, resin, coloring and a hardener. After being poured into the mold, a vibrator is turned on so any air bubbles will rise to the top (the non-finished surface). In short, the actual finish is extremely thin. It can easily be scratched. My MIL just replaced cultured marble sinks, tub surrounds and vanity tops on two bathrooms of a house built in the 70s. Over time razors, etc., had scratched and penetrated the gel coat. Unlike some types of tubs, sinks or countertops, cultured marble is not designed to last 20+ years. Once the gel coat is pierced, cultured marble is no longer waterproof. Water can seep through and rot cabinets, subfloor, etc. Cultured marble can be refinished if there is a small area where the gel coat has been damaged. As a practical matter, unless you have a local cultured marble manufacturer or installer, repair may be cost prohibitive and the fact is the product will fade somewhat over time. Cultured marble was the rage in the 60s and 70s. For a countertop it works well in some situations. But I would never recommend a cultured marble tub. Not that I'm a fan of acrylic either....See MoreBosch stainless steel ovens next to another brand fridge?
Comments (3)If you have to choose between an ideal visual match and a reliable fridge, go with reliability every time. My 2c. To get more comfortable with this decision, I ask the appliance dealer to move the two items...or if they are not available, two analogous pieces...side by side so you can really see....See Moredadoes
