White vs stainless steel refrigerator
Comments (21)Good point Maureen!!! If I had the luxury of buying all new appliances every couple of years, I'd definitely go with the trendiest out there. I'd hire a kitchen decorator who could help me with that too since I'm not up on the latest kitchen fashion. We can't afford to dress out our whole kitchen regularly so we stayed with something more timeless. On a funny note, when we got our new house, we were advised by well-meaning friends to get the cheapest grade dishwasher our builder had in his plan because it would break the first year & we'd be replacing it. So we did. Ten plus years later we finally upgraded to a quiet dishwasher. Go figure......See MorePOLL: Are hot tubs worth the money?
Comments (149)we bought ours in 1995. my husband used it most every day. the pumps were rebuilt over and over, went through 3 or 4 covers and loved every minute of it. had major leak this winter so we drained it around Christmas. We are definitely getting another. talk about sticker shock! but averaged over 20 years I guess its not too bad! can't imagine having one indoors or under cover. shooting stars and satellites make the soak even more enjoyable. tracyzyg, I would never get a Hot springs spa - way over priced, you are paying for the name and the MANY employees in each store. went to our local dealers yearly truckload "sale" and the tubs on sale ranged from $8,000 to $18,000. I found better, cheaper ones out there and have chosen a MAAX spa because of the way they are built and it has 2 loungers. all the bells and whistles for less than a comparable Hot springs sale tub....See MorePOLL: Black Stainless Steel Appliances - Yes or No?
Comments (235)Appliances DON"T last a long time any more!!! They're not like in the old days where you get 10+ years out of them. My black stainless fridge had service in the third year. It was an issue that was common to my model.. They replace everything including motor. Warranty had them give me a check for the purchase price. Also, when my plumber came for water line install in kitchen, he said "get the cheapest- they don't last". A friend got a great washer/dryer set. 1 yr later getting serviced. We went from the "keep forever" to "throw away" furniture and also "throw away appliances". I've had a 4 yr old Samsung fridge and a 5 yr old - $2900 LG Fridge replaced. Neighbors are fixing their 10 yr old appliances because they know they'll last longer than the new ones....See MoreWhich laundry tub you like most ? Really appreciate the feedback.
Comments (12)Don't really like any of them much, but of the three I voted for the stainless. You can scrub the cr*p out of stainless and it will be fine. Plastic laundry tubs can't take the abuse like stainless, they end up looking beat up over years of use. I guess it depends what you want the sink for, though. I have (2) laundry tubs in the house - one in the laundry room and one in the basement. When I re-do the laundry room, I'm replacing with a deep sink, either porcelain or stainless. The washer doesn't drain into the tub but it is nice to have running water/sink there because this room functions as our mud room, and I want something that looks nice -- a laundry tub does not, especially not a plastic one. I didn't have running water in the basement when I moved in, so I had the plumber set up a sink/faucet down there. I got one of those really big plastic jobbers because if I'm going to put in a sink to clean stuff up in, it should be big. Don't love the plastic, but couldn't afford such a big sink in anything but plastic, if I could even find something so big. I really like the functionality of it but we're careful not to beat it up (because plastic just can't abuse, it will get all scratched out then mold sets in and can't get the gunk out of the scratches). We don't use it much but it's there if we need a sink down there and who cares if it doesn't look great, it's way in the corner of the furnace room - functionality over looks in this case....See Moredadoes
