Pendants in Traditional Home Magazine Kitchen

This kitchen is in Traditional Home Magazine's December issue. The size of the kitchen--to me at least--is astonishing (enlarge the pic to get a better idea). The size of the mother and daughter in the pic give a sense of the scale. I am impressed with how the designer scaled the cabinetry, island and hood to work with the large space. I don't really like the lack of landing space next to the cooktop, but that is a small quibble given the availability of the island right there. But I am most struck by the light pendants. We have seen about a zillion oversized pendants, and they are usually glass with a good deal of metal trim of some kind. This is different. The magazine says they are made from the ends of a drainpipe! That must have been some drainpipe. I find it very original. What do you all think?
