Need help choosing new furniture

I'm shopping for new living room furniture. Im unsure if I should go with a right facing L shape sectional , a corner wrap around small sectional ( that will go from the window up to the wall ) or should I have it face the window ? Or just a sofa with one or 2 chairs ? I have attached some pictures of what it looks like now . The stairs go up to the bedrooms.

i have tried having the couch face the surfboard wall but it makes the space behind and in front way to small !

The wall with surfboard is 100" long and the window wall is 100" as well but right up to the entry door.

-any ideas or advice is appreciated

Room dimensions needed. It appears you want to view TV in this room? Does TV need to be in current location? In general, sectionals are less flexible and take up larger footprint.

I know you have tried it before, but I urge you to try a sofa facing the surfboard wall. The tv will go on the surfboard wall.

Right now, you have foot traffic walking between the sectional and tv. There will be plenty of room behind the sofa (about as wide as a hall).

When you try the setup, plan for a sofa. (So use only one leg of the sectional.) Then, I'd place a couple of chairs facing the window.

Can you remove the white shelves in the front hall?

The room is 109" window wall and 115" surfboard wall. We do prefer leaving tv where it is but we don't have to. We don't have tvs in any other room so yes tv in livingroom is a must. We do family movie nights and spend a lot of time in the living area as my entire house is only 1500sq. I do have 2 small kids and dog so I'll like to keep the livingroom area family friendly. Current couch was moved here from previous house and it's too big I think.. so I'm looking at something smaller and lighter in color (white or light beige ) I'm planing to get a easy to clean material like sumbrella.

CD-R I just tried again putting one piece of sectional facing wall and even though it looks amazing on those pictures it doesn't look good on my space. My current sectional depth is 38" and must sofas ( comfortable ones that is ) I've seen even the smallest one is at least 41" depth . I feel like it leaves almost no room between wall and sofa

Okay....if you want to leave the sofa where it is, then I recommend a sofa along the surf board wall. I recommend it be about 75" long, so that you can fit end tables and lamps on either side and the sofa not extend beyond the surfboard wall.

You have correctly observed that the issue is you want a hefty sofa, but the home is on the smaller side. So, compromises will have to be made.

Example: you could buy a 95" sofa and put a table only in the corner.

It appears there is a heat vent along the window? You might be able to fit a coupe of smaller chairs there.

Wondering if you could capitalize on any of the open floor space (where tree is) to become part of living room space?

I could... not sure how would I do that ? The room behind the tree is a Florida room which i have designated as playroom for my kids.

Could you sketch out floor plan with dimensions?

Back to you, Yolaine. I agree with Mrs. S. that a well-proportioned, not too high or puffy yet comfy sectional with two fairly long pieces would work--one piece under the window, one facing your TV--pretty much the layout you have now. And, yes, remove the cubby by the door. You might want to float the window section away from the window wall and place a narrow console table behind it if you need a place to drop keys in a bowl and situate a lamp for the corner. That would also give you a place to put some of the photos currently over the sofa so you can display your surfboards more dramatically without the distracting shelf underneath.

Like Mrs. S, I love your house. It has such a nice balance of being open while also having distinct rooms. It looks like your sectional works. Being a rug person I might add a rug in the TV area. I have 5 kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats... and an old patterned Persian rug hides a multitude of sins while also grounding the space. But I live in the Midwest where we need that feeling of warmth!

Hi Yolaine, Without room dimensions it isn't possible to create a scaled layout, but I would try to incorporate the unused floor space by tree as part of your living area. Below is a concept of this idea I offered earlier, think of the space under window as your "entry" with bench/storage, long runner rug. Regardless of what you go with, I would remove the shelving and move the surf boards which take up quite a bit of depth and visual space. A large canvas in its place would be a nice focal point without intruding into space. Have your room dimensions and layout before buying any furniture.
