Dealing with an Unethical Interior Decorator

We have been working with a designer for the past year, paid her in good trust and she is not refusing to return our calls. We are ready to remodel our entire house, I'm 5 months pregnant and she owes us a number of items to complete the project. Chandeliers, Sinks, Facets, etc. . . We fear she took our money and didn't order anything based on her behavior.

We've sent her a letter and now in the process of consulting with an attorney. Are consumers protected? Can she do this? Please help!!!

It really doesn’t matter what her title is. No, she can’t steal from you or fraudulently take your money. I’m glad you’ve seen an attorney.

Is she a license Interior Designer? Or is she using the word "Decorator"? The two are different. The Interior Designer is often licensed and bonded (with a diploma or degree of some sort). Whereas the interior "Decorators" are unlicensed, unregulated, etc.

Which of these two categories does she fall under?

It’s all right there in your contract. And the only person you should be talking to is your lawyer. This is a contract law dispute. If your lawyer helped you with the contract when you signed it, it should be relatively easy to have him send a nastygram and see which way the wind blows.

She could be in the hospital after s car accident too. Not every lack of communication issue is nefarious.

Residential designers do not need to be licensed in Florida, only those that work on commercial projects.

I am not getting this , you are just starting a remodel and you want to have all the lights and other stuff there to be in the way. I think you got took and you might never see the stuff but i am confused over the order that the whole thing is being done.

Patricia, I’m SO sorry this happened to you. Are you in So California or in Las Vegas? I’m dealing with thief and con artist , designer Elizabeth Cavanlaugh. She has stolen $205,000 in my personal goods and payments.

Metro police has assigned my case to a Detective with whom I’m meeting with once collate all my paperwork. It’s a horrendous nightmare
