Don't yell- 2nd guessing need help paint colors for entry

I had posted a thread a few weeks ago to decide on paint color for my hallway entryway and stairway. 98% and should be done that the color selection CHINA DOLL would be great. Not too dark, not too light, goes with carpet (beige) and also tile floor (white and gray tones). I think it was Justerrilyn who suggested DIVINE WHITE. I dismissed as being too white.

Of course if you know me, you know I went to get the paint chip and it's been growing on me.

So here are photos. Please be kind as the painter is coming on Tuesday and I already told him CHINA DOLL (but if the overwhelming majority is DIVINE WHITE I will deal with being a ditzy lady).

Again please be kind- the situation is we are replacing the wallpaper we have loved but is showing its 20 plus years of use- we are putting the house on the market in a few months- want clean freshly painted nice.

What to you think. This is the upstairs hallway with carpet. DIVINE WHITE ON LEFT CHINA DOLL ON RIGHT.

And this is in the entry way against the tile floor

AGAIN Please be nice. I can link the other thread in a few moments bu tI fear it will just dilute. The overwhelming majority in the last thread was CHINA DOLL. Waddyathink?

I hear you I actually tried the grays because I do notice from looking at listings that gray seems newer and fresher but that said, I really don't care for it and it does not work too nicely with my furrnshings. I do feel better that both selections are fine- thank you for being kind.

I don't think you have a bad option either way. When it comes to selling a house, fresh paint is fresh paint and most buyers know you've done it to sell and make everything look bright and crisp. Neither of your choices will be offensive and both 'buy time' for the buyer to figure out what they want to do.

I would vote Divine White, because at least on my monitor, the China doll looks darker than the floor, and strikes me as possibly being dreary. Don’t think you can go wrong with either for resale but Divine seems a little more neutral (in a good way). Good luck.

    Divine White.

But I like off white walls and white trim. I have SW Dover while walls with bright white trim throughout my house. Looks fresh and bright. Most of the new construction around me will do gray , like worldly gray and they all look so dark to me.

if the painter didnt get the paint - I would probably do divine white, but hard to tell from a swatch. it could be too bright!

Divine White, but buy some poster board and paint the color on it to see how it look s in a bigger sample and in different lights.

Another for Divine White, used it in my master bedroom and bathroom. Looks great with everything.

Yep it was me who made the suggestion. This is a color that changes a lot depending on lighting. In natural light it can look white/ taupe (a tiny tiny tiny tic of grey/beige). In halls with indirect lighting it can look off white warm-ish. It's a color that can say I'm elegant or I'm modern or I'm gloriously traditional.

Wall without art is in natural light. Wall with picture has hall lighting. It almost looks like a different color.

Here it is in different lighting again.

I am also thinking Divine White from these photos, especially with the carpet. I don't like what the darker one does with the carpet, but do try getting a sample or samples first. The wallpaper needs to either be removed or properly prepped and primed and the sample should go on top of that so you will get a truer test of the color.

You didn't ask, and I don't like it when folks go way off with comments, but you did mention selling in a few months. Without going into more, I would just suggest you talk to one or more realtors who know your market and what has been selling well about how that tile in the entry might impact your sale. If the tile is in the entry only, it could be a small update that might pay off well. If you also have it in your kitchen and other areas, it might be a tougher call. At a minimum, I would consider lightening the grout -- several options there, but that is another topic.

Another vote for Divine White. I’m sure painters are used to clients changing their minds :)

    Definitely divine white.

Sheilaaus, Lascatx brings up an extremely good point about the floor grout. When I bought my cheap foreclosure house the flooring really turned me off. I hired a company to come in to clean and redo the grout. After cleaning they applied an epoxy type paint(?) over the old grout. I got a color that is a close match to the off white/beige/taupe tile. It's a very reasonably priced process. I had about 1,200 or 1300 sf done for I think around $700. It takes a day. I can't tell you how fabulously different it all looked after...in a good way.

Or, those 3X bathroom magic erasers work pretty good on cleaning grout if not badly stained and "if" there was an original light grout. I think my original was a darker grout so I chose a light epoxy.

Light grout grows the sf visually.

    You are all great!!

I was happy with the China Doll but once I kept looking at the divine white it really grew on me. I just texted the painter and said I had changed my mind and will go with Divine White. ( I figured he probably hadn't bought it and even if he did, paint is not much $ it's the labor!!) . He texted back and said no problem. SO Divine White it is. And thank you for holding my hand through this and Justerrilyn for suggesting it.

About the grout and tile- I selected it in 1989 and we moved in (new construction) in 1990. At the time, it was my dream tile. I selected dark gray grout and liked it all until about 5 years ago when it suddenly aged in my eyes. The dark gray was wonderful though because it never discolored:). I see the merit of lightening it but not so sure I will do it----as it is throughout the entry, kitchen, and laundry room. Not sure of square footage but it's up there with yours. I appreciate the suggestion but just not sure if we will go for it. It's an exciting time and a bit overwhelming so I appreciate all the comments and suggestions.

Justerrilyn, that divine white looks fantastic. Who is the manufacturer of the paint?

    Saypoint, it's Sherwin Williams.
