Adobe on side and cocktail table and rug for blue leather sofa.

Hi,
I am looking for advice on the color and texture palate and shape for side tables and center tables to go with our peacock blue leather sofa and love seat. I have light beige/ oat colored walls ( I hate it but can’t paint the house this year) and darker hardwood floors. I want to give the room a modern feel but I think my style is more transitional. I was thinking of some thing metal( silver maybe).will it be too tacky?
I am also looking for suggestions for an area rug . I was thinking in tones of grey. Not sure if it will make the room dull. Please advise.

Thanks in advance

This will at least bump you up to the first page!!

I love, love the color of your sofas! I see brass as really warming things up in there. Not like overload brass, but accents of it. And drapes on your Windows! Maybe one or two rattan chairs.

There are many people here that are so good at finding the "right" rugs, drapes, and accents.

I am new to Houzz and not sure how to edit my title . It is supposed to read Advice and not Adobe. Ha ha ha

Actually, I looked at your post because it said Adobe and was curious as to how you used it on a cocktail table!

Me too. But I agree brass in moderation could be very nice with that sofa. I would choose a rug with not much gray in it a couple of nice arm chairs in a fabric and drapes on the windows would also help.A rug like this will allow you to add some accents in a color

I know that sofa -- we looked at it when we were looking with our son for his new apartment. It is a pretty blue and would go well with silvers and greys -- in the right space. If you could start over with your paint and do a darker or lighter floor with more red, grey or black in it, that would bee a great way to go. Since you don't plan to paint and i know the floors aren't going to change any time soon, work with what you have. You still have lots of options, and they may be ones you will like better over the long haul.

While you have warmer, more golden tones in your home, it is still very neutral from what you've shown. Do you have other furniture for the adjoining rooms, chairs, pillows or other things you plan to be using -- in this room or adjoining rooms? If not, then you need to have an idea for other colors, feel, etc to set the tone. That sofa can go in a number of directions.

I was looking for some ideas for you last night and wasn't able to finish. I looked at another site without finding anything I really liked and then went to Pottery Barn. Take a look there and see if you find inspiration -- and even better, look at a store to see how the colors look in person. Depending on the direction you want to take the room, I could see using about half of their rugs.

Teagan in grey multi looks like it might be a warm grey or blend of beige and greys that could work and might be close to what you were imagining in color at least. If you did something like that rug, I'd look to warm metals (copper, brushed or aged brass) or a dark wood -- cherry, espresso or similar. When we first saw that sofa, they had it displayed with a round hammered coffee table. I've seen similar tables with a smaller one that nests underneath. A marble top with a wood or metal base (again, not a bright silver or brass -- maybe grey or an aged natural metal color).

Nolan in the neutral color looks like it has beige and grey as well as some blue. It would at least compliment the blue if that is all grey -- and it would mix in the warmer tones you already have in the house. This one might bee my favorite of what I looked at last night. Similar ideas for coffee tables, but I could also see a mid tone wood with a bluestone or similar top.

Right next to the Nolan on my screen is Channing -- a red background Persian style that would take the sofa in another direction -- more traditional, very warm. Overstock and erugs are other places to look, but sometimes starting with a fewer number can give you a direction without overwhelming you. You might also look for photos of living rooms with blue sofas and see if you can find a look with similar floor and wall colors that appeals to you and take a cue from that.

Thank you for such a detailed explanation. We really loved the color and the style. This is our first time experimenting with blue sofa’s. We’ve always had traditional furniture but now I want to try something different. I will check out pottery barn to get some inspiration. I was thinking of the hammered look as well and saw a piece in dull bronze which looked very pretty.
Thank you once again for all the advice .

I have a blue leather sectional. I have no problem with your choice. I thought my son would like that one in part because it was the highest back among the ones we were looking at and he is tall. A high back was important to my sons when we bought our sectional, but this son likes to put his arm up on the back of the sofa these days and that one was a little too high. He bought one with a lower back.

I think you will find that blue, especially one softened with a little grey like this or a navy blue, will work as a neutral and go with most colors you want it to. The trick will be balancing the other tones (warm, cool, etc.). I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
