To curtain or not to curtain....that is the question!

O wise designers friends, please help. I bought a few curtains and this is one that I like, does it work? Am I crazy to mix up patterns as such?

Is that gray in the rug? IMO, the curtain pattern seems a bit much and I don't see the brown color anywhere in the room. I might try a lighter and perhaps textured curtain and let the couch color be the star.

Hi Lisa, the walls are on the same tone as the curtain, just a little lighter

The rug is white with gray, blue and yellow. I was thinking of going with a gray with white design curtain too but I have yet to find something this simple, with simple lines and not too thick of line.

I see some yellow in your rug. Would you be interested in trying something with some yellow in it?

I like those too, a little less striking and still has the white. where can I see the cost/size options of these?

Light background and colored pattern is better to contrast your walls.

Or you can select drapery panels that match your seating. No yellow

I hope you find what YOU like. Pick what you like the best. Certain posters (I won't name names) can be very opinionated and pushy.

You have a lovely room and great colors!

No one has pushed their opinion, but instead, have offered pretty good ideas and encouragement.

These are all wonderful ideas. I'm not for or against anyone of them nor took anything to be pushy. In fact, I wish someone could magically teleport amd have this done for me already...Haha...anyone have that magic? all jokes aside, even my husband thinks im buts spending this much time "trying" and searching for curtains. it's painful for the non designer.

Thanks for the visual Beverly! That helps a lot. is there a software or app that can try different drapes as you did?

Hey, where's tatts when you're looking for snarky?! Oops, did I mention a name?! LOL. Regarding your window treatments, I agree that coordinating with the colors in your rug is a great idea. Besides Overstock, if you google images "gray blue drapery", all sorts of choices will appear. When you find a few, post them and I bet some Houzzers can put them on the wall for you to see how they'll look.

So no one is confused.... I was speaking abut Beverly.

I agree that the beige doesn’t work with your sofa and rug. Also, when you find the right ones, I’d hang them on a rod. How’s that for snark?

saypoint...are you mocking my hangers? lol

aktillery, I think some folks don't recognize how their comments come across. Eg. tatts is actually quite funny but I would cringe if I were on the receiving end.

I personally like how they look. I think if you found a few cushions to match the colour of your curtains (white and light brown) It would help tie them into the room. I'm no expert though.

I personally love how drapes add height, color and dimension to a room.

Yes, Sabbath7, exactly but making a choice is what is killing me here.

Doc, lately, I have been reading various comments that were not very nice(on several other threads). I overreacted to Beverly's. I had suggested yellow if the OP were to like yellow for curtains. She immediately said "no yellow." I typically say nothing when posters aren't very nice. This time was just silly for me to take it personally. Having a bad day I guess. I picked the worst time to say anything about anyone. I apologize to all.

For sure yes drapes. Those drapes? I'm not sold. Super helpful, eh? I have a hard time coordinating pattern. Is the color off in the shot? Are they as brown/tan as they seem? Your rug seems grey and the walls grey, so I'm not in love with the drapes being brown. You said above the drapes are similar in color to the wall, so I'm not sure what I'm seeing! I like the drapes though, in general.

Doc, I am sorry for my comment. Lately, I have noticed posters saying things that are not kind or tactful. I had mentioned that if the OP liked yellow (bc it was in the OP's rug) then maybe yellow would look nice. Beverly then said "no yellow." I picked the very wrong time to say something. I never say anything about the lack of tact and this was not the right time. I think I took it personally. I am having a hard day today. I apologize for saying anything. It was not appropriate.

Did not mean to comment twice. I thought the first one never made it so I rewrote it. See, bad day.

If you'd like to make the room feel larger, then match drapes to the wall color. If that isn't an issue then there are more options as long as they're the right size and hung properly. I love your MCM sofas, but would like to see them step on the rug.

You might consider white curtains with a self pattern, and against that neutral backdrop go to town with your pillows, which will make the sofas the center of attention rather than the curtains. I'm seeing yellow and gray pillows, some solid and some patterned, and maybe even throw in a shocking lime green to wake up the room.

The gray print curtains don't appeal to me as much as I thought they would. Maybe it is just the way the light was coming through the ivory background in the original photo that they were snipped from. I'd work with the rug closely. The little yellow table next to the couch is adorbs (hate that expression normally, but the shoe fits here). AKT'so first pair of yellow drapes are worth a checkout. If so, keep working the yellow and snug your couch forward a bit.

Maybe a shade of turquoise pale like the soft green print above. Like a good scarf changes color according to what you pair it to, a small print might act as the bridge from the rug to the couch to the wall.

It is so much easier to make a decision when seeing it such as Beth H presented. I prefer a pattern in your room so do consider this. It does not conflict with the rug.

Be sure to buy draperies which are heavier or are lined. It looks like those you posted were too light.

These are only suggested looks & I would not puddle them as shown in the 2nd photo. Good luck. I have a particular love for window coverings.
