Need inspiration for feminine laundry room

Hi! I am ready to tackle my laundry room and need some inspiration for the walls and floor. My hubby doesn't want our bedroom to be too feminine, so I'm going feminine in the laundry room, instead! I have almost no budget for this, so I was thinking of painting the linoleum floor (and the flexible plastic baseboards) and then possibly stenciling a pattern on the floor. I also plan to either paper or paint the walls. I'm not sure if I want to paint all four of the walls or paint three of them and paper the fourth. I definitely don't want to paper all of the walls. I am considering a floral pattern paper, or pale pink paint for walls, and not sure about color for floors. Would a floral on one wall and a patterned floor be too busy? If I put a floral pattern on the wall, I was thinking about a monochromatic floor (base color and stenciled pattern in two shades of the same color). If the walls are just painted, I will go more dramatic on the floor.

We will definitely install a clothes hanging rod and some shelves on the right side (long empty) wall in order to free up the sink/counter area. This is also the wall I am considering for a papered accent wall.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

If my wife painted and designed our laundry room feminine then she would be responsible for all laundry and cleaning duties.

since you have no budget, why don't you look on Pinterest for ideas and how to's? I know their are many tutorials for painting vinyl flooring.

look for leftovers for wall paper if you're going that route. most places require you purchase a min of two rolls. Check craigslist for leftovers, paint, remnants for stone or even tile.

you could even choose to stencil the wall instead of paper

I would pick a cool bright color tile to do around the window and sink.

maybe make a no sew roman blind using your own mini blinds.

you could paint the floor to look like this with a stencil and the right paint

check craigslist for a cast off chandy. paint it or add crystals to it.

I've never shopped for wall paper on eBay but you can get really great fabric for pennies on the dollar, including high end designer and brands. Might be worth looking into. Stenciling would likely be cheaper and fun once you get going.

What about replacing the purely functional ceiling light fixture with something with more pizzazz? Possibly just adding a motif from your stencil in the corners so there's a fancy shadow would be interesting.

I feel like a straight rod would take up 2' of space when in use and make the room really tight. What about hanging a ladder horizontally which gives you the option of using the rungs for hangers which might not take up so much floor space? If you don't have an old one that needs a new job perhaps make one from dowels and 1x4s.

Be sure to shop in your garage for paint. I painted my garage with what was left from a gallon used for one side of 5 interior doors. That was was a wasteful mistake I made right.

Going to be fun. A limited budget makes things more interesting.

How much do I love this project??

First of all, you must must must have a chandelier....You know those awful brass ones they are practically giving away on Craigslist? Lets get one and spray paint it pink. (Or whatever color you're leaning toward.)

Also, I've never attempted this, but you can put fabric on walls using starch..So cute! You can even vacuum it if it gets dusty.

Don't forget your local thrift store and the dollar shop for containers for soap and clothespins.

I made a cute valance for my laundry room with leftover fabric that I had covered my ironing board with (no cupboard to keep it in so it was hanging on the wall)...I just put hooks on the corners of the window and tied heavy duty string to them. Then I used clothes pins to attach a rectangle of fabric...

Also, I have some bubble decals that I have floating on the wall above my washer.

    Laundry rooms should be fun..
