Anyone use a design/build firm for their remodel? Pros & cons?

I'm curious what experiences people have had going this route. Pros and cons? It seems nice to have one firm coordinate everything and provide you with a designer, architect, contractor, showroom etc. My guess is communication would be great and therefore you'd stay on time and budget in theory. On the other hand are you limited in materials selections? are these firms usually more expensive - meaning you will stay in budget but your budget won't get you as far? But even if they're more expensive is it worth it for the convenience of having someone coordinate and handle the whole project for you?

We are starting the process now in an effort to be ready for a summer kitchen/dining room remodel. This is our first (hopefully only) big remodel and I want to make as few mistakes as possible!
