what to put in corners of dining room?

Dining room is large, my table a bit small but cannot change. What can I put in both corners? They are large bare empty spaceS

What are the black things, candleholders? I'd remove them. They look too small & out of proportion. You can leave those corners empty, or put some art there.

Shelving units, small end tables, huge vases with tall grass flowers. Take a stroll through Home Goods store to find some beautiful but useless chatchkas.

I'd take down the black things and put some art there. (More substantial). You have a table on that wall in front of the windows, I don't think you need any more "furniture" (plant stands, columns, etc.) there -- would make it too crowded.

Could you remove the drapes and build a beautiful window seat? Also remove the black things. It would really update the space and draw attention from the corners.

I also agree with all the comments. Erin's window seat suggestion sounds nice. Sorry, you didn't ask, but the drapes look heavy and fairly dated.

I think you have room for a floor vase with some tall filler in at least one corner but you have to go bigger than what you have been picking for you other accessories.

I think your room, in its own right, is quite lovely.
try taking down everything. drapes, window table, wall sconces, etc, etc. most of it is distracting.
move it all out. then, as most of us don't use a dining room often, let the bare space grow on you.
I could live with a window seat... maybe. I'm a big fan of window seats, but who uses them in the dining room? imo, everything added should have a real purpose.
strip the room, dress the table.
see how you feel in a few months.

I think your drape color is lovely but the swags and jabots are the elements that are making people think they are heavy and dated. Try taking down the top treatment and see if you like the new look.

The room could use some contrast. The green botanicals could look great on your walls. Raise those valances to the ceiling so the room can look a bit more grand. Hope the chandelier is on a dimmer because the bulbs over light the room.

Forget the corners. You need a larger rug.

Nothing! You have nice bay window. Just get elegant drapes. From ceiling to floor.

I gave you a larger rug and beefier lamp, and got rid of the swags on the window. That's a beautiful window; let it show. I did not address the corners because I suspect that you need a large piece of art over your sideboard first. (Don't try to fill a large room with a bunch of little stuff. One large thing is worth 100 little ones.)

This rug is on sale at Pottery Barn right now:

Groveraxle, I haven’t seen your dog lately in your posts. ‘Hope everything’s okay. I miss him/her.

I'm sorry, but the table in front of the window doesn't do anything for the room. Drapes of a lighter color would flatter this room more. A larger rug which is more colorful would be a great addition. I suspect you could use more art in this room, by which I mean paintings instead of the metal objects you have on the wall.

Please replace the socket covers with something less jarring to the eye. The suggestions above all all very good and you are going to have a beautiful room. Keep us posted.

    Hi Christine,

You may want to consider swapping the tall table with a low table to better accent the bay windows. Then use taller tables in the two corners. Good luck!

@chickadee2_gw, I'll let the dogs know you miss them. I've been a little lazy lately, so I haven't been taking them around with me so much, but everyone is fine.
