what wall floor and vanity color,to blend with peach trim

last modified: 7 years ago

hi I'm redoing a bathroom and keeping the wall tile and peach tub. Not crazy about the peach color but the tub is in good shape and I'm not interested in reglazing or inserts. So what do you recommend for wall paint color and floor tile? Gray, black or white vanity?

I think I want to stay away from browns.

The tub is peach, with white tile, then a peach rectangular trim tile where it borders the wall. Tile goes 1/2 way up the wall. There is one window.

White floor with peach border inset a few inches if you can find a pretty good match to what you have. White vanity. Do you have an exhaust fan with a light?

yes I have a fan with a light. I picked up white tile today that had a little gray - unfortunately, the white tile on the wall has a slight speck so the two whites do not blend. Simple solution is now complicated. Guess I'll have to try gray or beige toned tiles?

I love your idea of black, white and gray accents.

    Is it this?

Although you could mix plain white with what you have.

    yes I think so!

So any idea of a floor that would work with that tile? The green in it is not that obvious as that picture is kind of magnified, but I was questioning if it was greenish, guess it is. Makes the tile look less white.

On anotehr note, I'm also going to look into taking out the peach border. Not sure how much more work this adds. Figure I can keep curtain closed and hide the tub lol. But if someone could figure out how to do this (floor, walls vanity color), easily, I would be so appreciative!

You could paint the peach accents. You may be opening Pandora's box if you try to remove it. My inlaws had pink inserts on their tile that they painted over. I know you have to use a special paint, but I have no clue what it is.

I would work with the peach accents since you are keeping the tub.

Pale gray walls and cabs would look great. Then large dove gray tile for the floor.

okay, I'm about to scrap the idea of saving the tile. I'm concerned that it just won't look nice when it's finished and that maybe I just need to remove it, insert a tub and paint the walls. I'm under pressure, the guy is coming monday. Though I kind of like the idea of grays/white, sage, cool blues, I'm open to any color/design inspirations. I just want it to look nice and refreshing. It's an upstairs bathroom that is basically used by my daughter. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, prob get most items at home depot or lowes. I guess I'm having trouble visualizing the end result. So any in put will be really appreciated.

Replacing the tub, wall tile, and floor tile is a complete gut job that will cost quite a bit. The plumbing fixtures will need replacement while the wall is open. The electrical may have to be brought up to code. Is that in your current budget?

no, prob not. I was thinking of coming to terms with an insert for the bath

I like the white wall tile. If its in good shape, you could just trim it in white or some other color. I think you can still buy that tile. Maybe jazz up a vanity with hot paint and colorful pulls. They have some great ceramic ones at World Market. A mosaic or grey floor tiles would be great. Fluffy bathmat and colorful shower curtain. Mini-blinds would be nice. Fun project.

a less frilly/fussy window treatment and shower curtain might help quite a bit. think 'crisp' maybe with a bit of a vertical stripe. a clear liner.

What is wrong with this bathroom other than the cosmetics, and the vanity which is not original?

I would not recommend taking out what is probably a solid bathroom (unless there are leaks or functional problems you haven't explained) and doing something on a low budget.

I don't know what your location is, but I redid an entire bathroom of this size because it was in terrible shape and since I was selling it was done with medium at best quality and workmanship and it was still between $15,000 and 20,000 all told.

If you want to do a budget turnaround for $6000 just because its Not White, you could be opening a huge can of worms.

I would go with medium grey hex tiles on the floor and a white vanity .

How about a soft grey wood look porcelain
floor tile, grey vanity with white sink. Leave everything else as is.
The valance is dated.. the pictures do nothing and are hung too high. Shower curtains are not
expensive. Unless your daughter loves the flowers, find one more up to date, textured white, or stripes....tone on tone. The present tile looks to be in good condition, leave it.

paint the walls a pale gray, remove the frilly valance, remove the pictures, and replace that vanity. check Craigslists for some good deals. finding a nice white one w/a marble top or a plain white quartz top, would be fine. can't see your fixture or light, but i'm assuming those are quite dated. update those as well. put a glass shelf over the toilet and a nice black and white print (larger than what you have). that's it.

a vanity similar to this, would work, you could also do a window covering like shown.

this is a nice one too

or, for cheap, find an older oak vanity that people sell on Craigslist all the time, and paint it...bring in some gold elements like they've done here.

heck, you could even do a vintage dresser, some beadboard,,,

Beware stark color contrasts that are visually jarring for anything as permanent as the countertop of the vanity -- such things don't usually have staying power for being liked as the novelty wears off.

Natural wood in a medium or light finish would go well with the peach -- either that or white for the vanity. White or tan could make a good countertop.

With white and peach tile and peach fixtures, I'd stay with light brown/tan floor and add any other color -- especially black or bold color -- via the shower curtain -- not the vanity or countertop -- wood and white tan will go better there.

Thank you all so much!!! I am planning on getting rid of fixtures, medicine cabinet, curtain, vanity and especially the floor, it has a crack. I really like the picture with the gray wall, white vanity. But problem is the tiling around the vanity as it's only on lower wall and is not a true white due to the faded green speck, so whites next to it are not blending well, making the tile look beige, dirty. Had same problem on floor but I found a tile that is more in light gray family and it could work.
