Redecorating Teen Girl's Bedroom

Hi!! I am looking to repaint and redecorate my bedroom. It is currently turquoise blue and lime green, with oak wood furniture and white carpet. (If you're thinking "yikes!!", I know, I don't blame you, it was decorated this way when I was nine and I am now seventeen!!) I am keeping the furniture, which includes an oak wood headboard, and carpet but planning to repaint and redecorate the room. I have considered a white/light comforter and accenting with colors such as greens, blues, yellows, etc. or any colors that accent nicely. I am looking for advise, suggestions, etc. with bedding and comforter sets as well as paint, decor and anything else recommended when redecorating. I am also on a budget, so anything fairly inexpensive would be great too! Thank you!!

Please post pictures of each wall of the room, and let us know what furniture or decor items you are planning to keep. You said you will be buying new bedding and a comforter. What about window coverings? What is your budget?

post pics of the furniture/room and get yourself the bedding you like first. easier to match paint to your comforter.

look at pics of bedrooms you like, (check Pinterest. maybe Boho or Beach Chic ?)

In addition to pictures, can you please tell us if you are allowed to paint your wood furniture and headboard? Do you know what kind of art you like?

p.s. There's nothing wrong with the turquoise blue and lime green combo you used to like, and you still like blues and greens, is it that you like them in less intense versions (such as pastels), or lesser amounts mixed in with white?

Tell us more about yourself.

Do you like colors that are subtle maybe pastels, or louder jewel tones like ruby red and emerald green, or black and white?

Do you like a frilly look, a playful look, a stark look? Do you want a room that says sophisticated, spa, chill space, funky, wonky, loud, subdued?

Do you like photographs, abstract art, pics of friends or family, anything memorable you want to hang on your wall?

Will you be in this room for a few years to come or will you be moving out after high school?

Here are some inspiration pics. Do any of these feel like they are you? Which ones? They might be bigger budgets, but there are still ways to get a similar look for less.

Hi Emma,

Such a fun project! I did a teen girl's bedroom last year. We used items from Homegoods , Bed, Bath, & Beyond, & Target to keep the costs down. The walls are Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore. It will help to do a neutral wall that you can accessorize differently over time as your tastes in decor change. Would it be possible to paint the oak headboard white?
