Modernism Week Showhouse in Traditional Home magazine

Just picked up the March/April issue of Traditional Home and the "color me modern" feature on their Palm Springs showhouse (pages 108 to 120) is giving me palpitations! The colours, the glamour, the wall coverings....I haven't analyzed each picture yet but apart from a disco ball on a sofa that's provoking consternation, there's not much here that's not calling my name.

Have you seen it? Love it? Hate it? Favourite rooms?

Didn't think to link to the images online!

I liked the master bath and Barkay Butera's room, even though I'm not normally fond of a neutral palette, but the rest left me cold. So has Traditional Home, the few issues I've happened upon lately, because not much of it has been what I consider traditional.

Love the open shower in the master bath! I was going to say it might be cold but this is Palm Springs. You're right, Traditional Home has been veering away from the traditional lately.

So, color and wallpaper is back? Darn.

My copy came today. I also like the master bathroom and living room. The article on the Mississippi house has some very pretty rooms. I used to get the mag for years, and subscribed again last year when one of the grandkids had a school fundraiser. Not much traditional content anymore, and it’s all ads from cover to cover.

I was very surprised to see that feature in Traditional Home, cpartist. :) All shelter mags seem to be cover to cover ads, saypoint. And this one is no longer monthly so readership is down, for sure.

It's okay. I am not really a fan of show houses anymore, because there is a certain prescription to follow and I am not sure it really ends up being people's best work. Partly because everyone is trying to compete and also shoehorn every new idea they have into one room.

Love the powder room! But that's about all.

Prescription meaning "use sponsors' products", Palimpsest?

I think they are probably supposed use certain things or they are required to use things that are in the showrooms, and there are probably some requirements for the house itself. I dunno exactly what I mean.

The powder room is indeed gorgeous, lovemrmewey. They say a Marilyn Monroe photo inspired it. I'd love to know which one.

I don't know much about show houses, palimpsest, but I'm sure you're right and there are prescriptions and formulas designers much follow when designing these rooms. I mean, it's all about selling product.

"happy". Yes, that's it, woodteam5. All those bright colours scream happy to me. I don't think I could be in a bad mood in that house.

    Not my style!

I really enjoyed this show Home! I think it was less disjointed than I am used to seeing, much more livable, happy, and fun. Loved all the color!

I associate "Modernism" with early 20th Century, not mid-century, but that furniture looks more like Hollywood Regency, which I don't particularly care for. although I do like the pieces in acrylic. I've been working on some furniture designs that I would like to have fabricated in acrylic, but we'll see how that goes. I'm on vacation now until March. I'm going to an orchid/bromeliad show in Santa Barbara after I get back in March, and so I probably won't be going to Palm Springs for Moderism Week this year, although I think I still have some week-ends in April open.
