How high do I hang the curtains?
Comments (3)I wouldn't hide the transom window above the window on the right. I would highlight it as a feature of the room. I would install drapery rods at the ceiling for both windows and hang matching side panels. Then I would install some kind of blind inside the casing right at the top of the window on the left and install the same blind inside the casing, just below the transom window on the right. Also, I would paint out the wood on the casing so it's white to match the window or the same colour as the wall. Leaving the casing wood tone draws a big outline around the different sizes. Good luck!...See MoreHow high should I hang my curtains Over windows that are not the same height?
Comments (14)Also a great idea. I was planning to use a grey solar shade on both windows (I'd like to reduce the light, but privacy is not an issue in this room). So maybe I will hang the shades and then temporarily hang the curtains on the non-arched window to see how it looks with just one set of curtains. By the way, this configuration is duplicated symmetrically on the other side of the room. And I totally agree with you about the architect! We have similar windows downstairs but without the pitched roof line above it. I hung beautiful quatrefoil curtains above the arch, and I love them. But no such luck in this room. Thanks again for these thoughts. It's so nice to kick this around with someone(s)!...See MoreHow do I hang curtains? Space issue
Comments (5)DIY: You can buy an iron, hallow aluminum or wood solid round dowel (closet rod) at the hardware store. Get it the length of the room. Buy 2 end caps that mount on a wall for a closet rod or shower rod. Make sure to use anchors. Mount a center hook, like a closet hook in the center of the window, from the ceiling to support the dowel/rod. Use anchors!!! Very important. You can paint it any color. There are great metalic spray paints. Make sure that your drapes aren't too heavy....See MoreJust how do you hang curtains on a window like this?
Comments (6)Amy, I would recommend the following based on the your needs of-budget, love the light, hate the glare, and renting. For the 2 angled windows, I would purchase a light to med. beige solar screen fabric . I would then make a template of the window and cut the screen to this shape. I would then take a double sided adhesive tape, apply it to the white frame of the window, and then I would attach the back of the screen to the tape. When you leave, you can remove screen and remove the double stick. I did this on a window and then the husband put trim work over the front of the fabric. To add color, I would do 2 drapes on each side of the window on the lower part. IKEA has some great options and you can hem it to what you need. Below is a picture of the screen in the window before the trim was added....See Moresophiecedw
