Need help with my boring, naked bathroom

We haven't done anything to this room whatsoever since we moved in. I'm not a fan of the current wall color and have done nothing to decorate it. At some point we do want to replace the counters and retile the shower, but that won't be for a long time.

I have attached a pic of our bedroom as well as it needs to coordinate with this room as well. Our room needs some work also!!

What aspects of the room do you like? Dislike?

For what the bathroom is now, add some art on the walls, a plant, and maybe a stacking tower with soap, q-tips, and something else useful to you. Looks like there isn't much counter space so use the wall and height. a runner would look nice too... remember it doesn't have to be a bathroom rug. Go check out Homegoods and see if they have something with the colors you are looking for. Good luck!

Yes, brighten it up with some color... I'd find the wall hangings and art first, then let that help you determine the paint color.

This may sound really dumb, but which walls would you hang artwork on? The only wall that seems large enough has the door that opens into it.

There's a lot of brown in the two rooms - I'd start with a lighter, refreshing paint color for the walls - a medium to light jade green to light warm grey is my first inclination. Then the textiles (bedding, drapes, rugs, towels) all can be updated in colors that contrast with the fixed colors of tile, cabinets, and carpet. Lighting fixtures and cabinet pulls can all be updated too (perhaps to the polished chrome of the faucets), as the oil-rubbed bronze is dark as well. Even the mirror frames can be painted or changed out to brighten the space. Hope this helps! :)

Try a pale apricot. Hang a series of small pictures on the wall between the toilet and shower.

Would you consider changing out the mirrors? I think they are pretty, but they do seem to be contributing to the general consistency in color throughout the room.

How about some new faucets that might be a little bolder?

Maybe a little succulent plant on the counter to add some more life?

You could add a small framed piece of art above the towel rings. Art where the door opens. Small art on larger shower wall.

Try three paint samples halfway between the color of the floor tile and that of the lightest color in the countertop. Or prime the walls in white primer, then sample three colors that are two shades lighter than the floor tile.

Maybe a towel bar? Where do the bath towels hang?

The biggest improvement you could make is to remove the bulky counter cabinet. It's too deep and it's eating up your precious counter space. I would rather see a wide, narrow tray of toiletries on the counter.

Your lights should also point downward, which will require different mirrors. Simple beveled mirrors are fine. You might consider changing the lights out to nickel.

I actually love the center cabinet but think the mirror frames are fighting with it. Could you possibly add a more built in mirror like this picture I just found on the realtor website listed in a different thread. It will make you cabinet area more custom looking.

That cabinet is probably 8" deep, which is a better size for a vanity, and really all you need. The cabinet the OP has is a standard kitchen cabinet, 12" deep.

Minorad, if you love having a cabinet on your counter, I'd consider ordering a more shallow one and adding glass doors, open shelves, drawers--something to pretty it up and take away from the heavy kitchen cabinet appearance.

i like your bathroom, especially the wood and counters! I would change out the light fixtures, faucets, and paint color to something lighter with color with more modern shapes. You can match it to a new bath mat. Your cabinets are shaker style and dont match your doors, but it would be hard to change out doors without changing them through the entire house. That style of door is in every single tract home built in the last 25 years.

Are your bedroom drapes a teal color? A paler shade of that would be pretty in the bathroom.

Would it be possible to just flip the current light fixtures around so they are pointing down? How would that interfere with the mirrors?

You could try a seafoam green or a blue on the walls depending on what you like. It looks like you have a lot of brown in your bathroom and just need some color. You can always add color with artwork and accessories though.

I would install bronze faucets and add two beautiful oval mirrors in a bronze finish. Check uttermost. Lights need to be shining down.

You might give a look to SW Relaxed Khaki. It really brightened up my formerly taupe bathroom.
