50ft hallway with hardwood floors. What kind of runner rug to use?

I love the beauty of hardwood floors. But a runner rug would add some visual interest I think.
What design should I use? Should I have one long runner or do a gallery style (2-3 small runners?)
Should I do a border? Something solid/plain? Pattern may be too busy. I'm just afraid of having 50 feet of carpeting...the idea's a bit scary. Any suggestions/ thoughts? btw, the walls will have more art on it soon...
