Maybe a nice texture such as seagrass or a natural rug would look nice. They also come on stripes and patterns.

I think the gray rug would blend and be a bit too much gray in my opinion. I would look for a rug with some contrast to your cool colors... something that had warm tones in it.

I LOVE the striped rug in your inspiration pic (with the lucite table). What about looking for that one? Since you love the look of the acrylic table, I would be tempted to just go for it. It looks like you can actually polish scratches out of some acrylics, so I'd either opt for a very high quality one, or a cheap one that you won't lose your shirt on if it gets ruined after a while. You can also think about a minimal metal frame with either acrylic in the top or glass that's replaceable with acrylic. Store the glass until your children are older. The acrylic is easily replaceable if it becomes too scratched.

I would avoid getting a huge wood table. It will be very cumbersome to move around it for seating. I'd opt for a couple of smaller ones.

I worked at a gift shop and we were instructed never to clean the acrylic display stands with ammonia based window cleaner, as the ammonia can scratch acrylic. Just an FYI for if you go that route.

This is for a second home, and I’m trying to do it as inexpensively as possible. I bought the couch during a sale.

I have the 2 chairs in my primary house and don’t really have a use for them, even though I had them recovered about 3 years ago. I would very much like to bring them to the new home and use them.

So I’m working with the charcoal couch and 2 chairs. The rug is the missing piece.

I love blue, gray, silver and white.

I don’t like yellow, green, brown.

You could possibly make the existing chairs work by leaning towards neutral colors on your rug and artwork. You could also tie the couch and chairs together by repeating colors from the chairs in throw pillows on the sofa.

Without getting too beachy a driftwood coffee table would be very pretty and with a glass top would stop the wood from looking too heavy in your room.

In person, you see wonderful trim and ceiling .... traditional I think... this has? not all photos show it this bright - seems in chair and is it silvery like paint?

I wholeheartedly agree with Tatiana Realtor that the rug she posted with the colors of your sofa/chairs subtly in it perfectly ties your room together and gives it interest and life that just isn’t there without the bit of color on the floor.

Totally agree but the hand woven style of that rug won’t stand up to the wear and tear of a beach house and sand. Am I wrong?

I would decide on art above the couch before purchasing the rug.

Then I wouldn’t rush to buy a rug until I found a suitable one with some of your colors in it. Nothing loud or garish, I don’t think the plain one you are looking at to buy adds much to your pretty room JMHO

Would you put a bench or 2-3 poufs/ottomans in front of the left hand sliding doors? I need more seating, but don't know which direction to go.

I can't do a large chair because it impedes the couch too much.

Are you planning to keep all the furniture around the perimeter of the room or will you move it closer together once you have the rug?

Denita: I have to keep the right sliding doors clear bc that’s how we will exit to get to the patio and deck. But I am ok putting stuff in front of the left sliding doors.
