You can cover it with that cocofiber mat stuff and secure it with fishing line cross crossed up and down the dowel. You'll have to mist the cocofiber to get the aerial roots to be attracted to it.

To me, that doesn't look like a Monstera deliciosa. The vine is too thin, and the internodes are spaced way too far apart, and the aerial roots grow much longer than that, too. Plus, the petioles that hold the leaves up would be much longer, and at least one or two of the leaves would have at least one split in them by now, if it had grown that tall already, even if it were still a juvenile.

Here's what my regular Monstera looks like to give you an example of what I mean:

Ah, okay, that does look like a Monstera leaf. The first photo didn't show any of those. I would gradually increase the level of sunlight that it's getting, especially since its leaves are variegated. This will help the plant to grow much stronger, with much larger leaves. When I bring mine back indoors for the winter, it still grows new leaves, but those leaves are much smaller in comparison. Only when I move it back outdoors does it grow much larger leaves. Yours was probably grown in low light levels, which would cause it to grow the way it did.
