The pictures were taken just now so full daylight it is even darker with internal doors shut and as you can see having the front door wide open makes little difference.

Use the same flooring everywhere except bathrooms and possibly the front entryway. Entries are often different because there can be muddy boots and dripping coats.

Same flooring throughout the flat (see apple pie's comment). The baseboards and quarter round trim are removed prior to floor install. New, 5 inch, pre-painted baseboards are installed after the floor. They will require "scribing" (you need a finish carpenter for this) so they lay almost flush atop the new floor (NO quarter round). Pay attention to these details and your flat will look SO much nicer.
