sofa in a kitchen and how much should I reduce this wall by?

I am not going to have a nook in the kitchen as indicated, but a larger island with seating.
Since I have the space, I'm thinking I might place a sofa under the windows where nook was. 1) is it odd to have a sofa in a kitchen and 2) should there be a wall at all?
(Pix show smaller island than intended - it will be 4 x 8, going in the opposite direction than shown. )

Consider two comfortable chairs so people can face each other for good conversation and it also allows for seating flexibility. Once you remove the wall adjacent to the dining room, you change the dynamics of the entire space. Do you have a family room? I like the smaller intimate space in the kitchen area.

I have a hearth room connected to my kitchen that has a loveseat, coffee table, and buffet and hutch. Go for it!!! Makes a nice reading area, entertaining space...

So I have the hearth room on the left, the dining table in the middle with a bay window, and the island kitchen on the right of the table.

I would take out the wall and I do think its fine to have a couch in at kitchen, it's called a morning room, my house has one as well.

Yes, Like the idea presented by Scott Design. Two chairs and a nice table would be a lovely spot to search recipe books, or sit and read with a glass of wine or tea. Sounds lovely.

Scottdesign - yes, my family room is next to the DR. So you propose leaving the wall or making it minimal like say, 18"?

Cori Ann - there is no (available) wall across from the proposed sofa area for chairs - there is a door for stair access from the garage and cabinets/pantry next to the door..

I'd leave the wall as is. Treat this as an intimate, casual corner of the kitchen requiring little effort to set up. Try it first before you start moving or reducing walls.

Hard to explain in words...I know you said you are getting a bigger island, and I am not usually for peninsula, but it may work a little better for you, with or without a banquette..

wow - that is VERY interesting Aggie. I started with a banquette in mind, moved to a nook and then just using the space with a sofa - I LIKE this idea and will explore... Thank you very much!
