The Rockwood is also UV cured Treffert oil finished. I'm thinking that an oil finish will work better in our house than the aluminum oxide but I'm not sure.

This is the French oak in Arizona! We got it for $5.69 a sq ft, If you call them you can get that price. This is an oxide finish, we have two dogs and a baby and have heard of that dog drool can discolor the oil finish. We were also told that the oil finish need special cleaners, and it just sounds like a lot of work to me to maintain! I like these floors because they still have the look of the oil finish though.

We'll be knocking down our house in a month or so, so we have a little time on our hands before we order but will need to know the thickness that we pick up front so it will work for the rest of the house. Hi Alloque, we are also currently looking at Rockwood samples (Cornerstone Walnut) and found this thread researching their company. There doesn't seem to be much info on them; it's been a couple months... did you go with this product in the end?

Not too late. We're doing a new build and some unseen zoning issues got thrown into the mix when we were almost ready to move out, which is par for the course, right?! Should be starting soon. It's still our favorite, so it's good to know others are happy with it also, thanks!

No, but we still intend to. We only just got our old house knocked down! So much red tape and problems from all sides added more than a year to our start date. Felt like a ping pong ball, getting hit from one dept to another and back to the first again! We are going to order one box of it in a couple of months though to put through the mill. Definitely want to see how it holds up to various tests from the dog, kids and what we can throw at it!

Hello, I am looking to install engineered wood throughout the house (about 3200 sq ft). I was initially drawn to the Provenza Old World collection. But having read some reviews on Houzz, I am in a dilemma on installing them. The reviews mentioned that Provenza had a lot of splinters, chips and dents and customer service from Provenza was not super friendly in getting things fixed. Could you let me know how you feel about RockWood? Are you happy? any issues?

Hi! I have RockWood Kerrstone throughout my house (in the Oak finish- wide planks). I love it. It’s beautiful and has just enough variation where it’s not too overwhelming visually. The drawbacks- it scratches and dents fairly easily. I believe floorswww.com has it on sale for $4.99 and sometimes will give you a cash discount.

Well, I posted this question 2 years ago. We're still not finished yet! Floors will be installed in a few weeks now. I'm still sticking with the Rockwood Claystone and it's still $4.99 sf.

I'm posting some pics of tests I did on a pack we bought last year. It came out quite well. Of the stains, mustard was the worst but faded away after a couple of days. I left it outdoors for a few weeks with rain, soil thrown on it and the worst that happened was that the sun faded the part not covered. A heavy scratch I put in it was sandable but still slightly noticeable. All-in-all, I still think it's good value for the price. Heather, I love those pics of the Kerrstone you posted. We just paid for the Claystone yesterday or I'd be having another look at that!!

@alloque, Did you put in the floors? We are deciding between California Collections Mediterranean Kerrew and Rockwood Kerrstone. I really want to pick the one that will look best in 5 years with 2 young kids. The lower cost or Rockwood has me asking, "Why is it $2 cheaper per foot than Ca Classics?"

Any thoughts on the oil finish vs aluminum oxide (Valspar)?

They're just going in right now. We went down to WWW a few weeks ago just to be sure but we're happy with the choice. I'll include a couple of bad pics I took yesterday. Take note though, that I went with the Claystone rather than the Kerrstone. I figure the darker mix will be easier on kids and dogs for showing dirt, etc. and we have white walls, high ceilings and a sunny climate.

I don't know anything about the CC Med wood but was very happy with how the Rockwood stood up to my tests. I figure since the Rockwood is a brand only sold through the WWW, that they're able to offer it cheaper since they sell a lot of it.

Safest bet would be to buy a box of each or at least buy one box of the one you might be leaning towards. That way, you can use the planks if you like it and you won't break the bank if you don't!

Oil vs A oxide.. Personal choice, I prefer the oil. I think it will be easier to touch up down the road but these days most of the flooring choices are pretty durable. Have you felt both samples? Some of the samples I had when I started this felt quite fake to me. The Claystone is wire brushed which gives it a more subtle finish and shouldn't show up scratches from dog nails but might not be as easy to clean if your kids like smushing gluey items into the wood!

Is it possible to order directly from Rockwood, or do you need to go through a distributor? If you have the choice of either, what is the benefit of one over the other? Rockwood website has much cheaper choices, but they don't reply to direct emails, they don't return calls, and their contact function is broken. Thanks

Any recent experience by anyone with Rockwood? Have narrowed it down to Rockwood and another brand, Bellarosa, that I can’t seem to find any info on. we like the Rockwood moonstone oak, which comes in AB grade quality.

Dan Kay, I think you can only get it from WWW. They have samples there that you can borrow. I highly recc buying one box of whatever wood you finally decide to go with though. No matter what brand you eventually go with. If you like it, you can use it and if you don't, you've saved a lot of money and heartache!

Itsoi, I'm still really happy with our purchase. The biggest downside I can see with it, is sun bleaching. We had construction paper on part of our bedroom for a couple of months and when we took it off, you could see that the wood by our bed was lighter.

I just looked to see if it was still noticeable and it's not. So sometime in the past two weeks, it blended! Something to think about if you decide to move rugs etc.

We throw toys for our 50lb dog to chase and she hasn't scratched it up yet but we did go with a wire-brushed finish!

We were also able to buy a few boards of stair nose molding to match from WWW but it wasn't cheap. Can't remember the price but it matched really well and was solid oak.

We’re going back and forth still, with Rockwood being one of the contenders. how long did you let the food items sit for your stain test? from what I can tell, only mustard left any sort of mark? How is scratch resistance? Also, Do you have to re-oil it every 6 months? The employee at WWW told me simply condition the surface with a conditioner every 6-12 months... seems easy but I keep hearing about UV Oil floors being super high maintenance. mixed Reviews out there...

I left the mustard on there for 24 hours and then cleaned it off. It faded completely after a short time (maybe a couple of days, I can't remember).

I never heard about conditioning it, that could be a good idea but we've been pretty harsh on ours for the past 3 months and it's holding up really well, so might do that after a year or if a specific room needs it before.

I felt that the oil finish would be easier for me to do touch ups on if I needed to.

Still have construction going on but we've been living here for the past 3 months.

And we routinely throw balls and toys for our dog down the long runway of the living room/hall and I've yet to see her nails scratch up anything!

It's been pretty impervious to our kids dripping water in the kitchen also.

I don't know how it will look in 5/10 years but at the moment, I'm still really happy with our choice. It seems like a very low maintenance, easy to clean (doesn't show much dirt/dust!) floor.

We paired the Rockwood Claystone with BM OC17 on our walls and like the color combo.

If you're leaning towards buying it, just buy 1 box and pop it together somewhere you can look at it for a week or so. I think you'll get a pretty good idea then if you like it or not.

And if you like it, you can reuse it, win win!

It says on their website that they are. I went with wire brushed since I knew we were going to be hard on our floors and I like its more relaxed look. It's been a couple of years now and we regularly throw balls for our 50lb dog down the room/hall. No damage so far from that or from my kids leaving water spots in the kitchen! Still really happy with wood choice. The multiple colors in Claystone mean that we've been able to mix our wood colors in tables, etc and it pairs beautifully with rich jewel tones.

P.S. For anyone sofa shopping..

Sofa is from Casco Bay. An American company. Leather is Mont Blanc in butterscotch, crazy comfortable and cheaper than the one made in China from Rejuvenation!
