Orientation of new hardwood floors over old hardwood floors

I have an old bungalow in which the original hardwood floors were laid perpendicular to the joists and directly on the joists with no subfloor. The floor was laid in a north-south orientation. I have remodeled the house with the plan to use the old hardwoods as the subfloor for new hardwoods. I would like to lay new 3-1/4" hardwoods in parallel (also north-south orientation) over the old 2-1/4" hardwoods. Will laying the new strips in the same direction as the old strips cause a problem?
