We are about to do a total remodel on our home and I’ve yet to come up with a design for the banister. Keep it? Replace it? If so with what? Remove and build a pony wall?
Are you going with more of a modern look? Is this the only piece of banister in the space?
Is that a step down into the next space? I agree what are the other banisters like if there are some.
Advice needed to update dated iron bannister/stair railing.
Suggestions needed for having yellow oak floors and a painted banister
If that’s a step down room I’d be tempted to drywall that area between the column & wall, same height.
what do you want to put on the other side? if you'd like a side table/small bookcase right there, then a pony wall will give it good backing. if all your furniture will float, open is nice.
I think a pony wall will be more useful than a bannister .
Thank you everyone for your advice! Sounds like the pony wall is the majority, which was my husbands idea as well. Lol The room does have a step down and we are keeping the carpet but the wall color is changing, window trim is going to be painted white and the trim around the windows is being replaced with a more modern trim as well as the fireplace is going away replaced with a stacked stone linear fireplace.
I agree with the pony wall being more convenient for furniture placement. The banister looks like there is a step down. The linear fireplace will look very nice!
I would certainly remove the banister as it’s a more neutral cleaner look.
