Ideas to Improve Exterior of Home

We’re looking for ideas to improve the exterior of our home. We bought it a few years ago and haven’t had the time to invest in improving the outside until recently.

It’s got an odd color of brownish-tan brick in the front and a mix of different tans/creams/greens painted all over with no consistency. The windows are also not consistent and the door does its job but we’d like to replace them.

Any suggestions for trim, windows, or door? Any suggestions for the large growing bushes against the house? Anything else that might be helpful? We’re super open to any ideas and feel kind of overwhelmed.

The two largest surfaces on that home that are kind of middle of the road are the garage and the roof. Some higher end decorative garage doors might really make it pop from the street. The roof, when it is ready for replacement, could be a stunner if you looked at something like metal.

I can see some revisions in landscaping to open up the front as well that would really have some traction. The brick isn't a bad color and it does have some nice vegetation around it. Perhaps some darker contrast in the window or door?

Seems odd or unbalanced,with the slightly off centered large single window on the right side.

What Windows on Washington said. The window on the right looks centered underneath the gable peak, which is fine.

I really appreciate the suggestions so far!

@WindowsonWA - I never even thought about replacing the garage door more than painting it something else. I’ll look into that!
The plan for the roof is to replace in 5 years if it can last that long — Never even considered a metal one. I need to do more research there.

I think you have a very nice home.

Having new garage doors would be nice, but don't change them for the sake of design IMO. Paint them a color that is in your brick, a dark color that blends into your brick.

Then paint your front door a lively color. What color do you like? Red? Navy? Orange? Green? Almost anything works with your brick :)

Then pressure wash your driveway and walkway.

I think if you change your landscaping it will really amp up your home. Right now the bushes along the walkway on both sides really close in your entrance. Make large beds on the street side of the walkway with different plants. Get a good plan from a landscape designer. Or post in the landscape section of this forum for some great ideas to change your landscaping.

^I don't know your planting zone so these particular plants may not work. This is just an example to show you a more open type landscape design rather than the bushes lined up against the house and the walkway.

No need to feel overwhelmed in my opinion since it won't take much to take your home to fabulous. There are so many beautiful garage and front doors now available. Some new plantings. That's it!
