When you say refinish, what do you mean? Are you thinking resurfacing them to maybe change the colour, or removing them entirely for something new, different railings. They seem to go well with the other fixtures on and around your house.

I would definitely top up the soil in the planter and have a nice little garden there :)

I think I can cap them or paint them, I don't want to remove them. Just looking for some suggestions to make them pop. The front of the house is covered in stone so I'm wondering what to do with the steps because they're cracked and dated.

Well, you could cover them with facer bricks or outdoor tile. But you might have trouble finding something that would blend with your existing stone.

Paint is always an option. Maybe not a good option, but an option nonetheless.

If you live in the north where it snows or freezes, don't paint the steps. Painted steps are like an ice skating ring. You can stain them a color to match your stone. That planter would be cute with a fountain.

If you just go over the existing with stone, you're either going to have a trip hazard at the bottom, with stone sitting 1.5-2" higher than the driveway, or your last step will be much bigger than the rest and that can also trip people up. Both are unacceptable. Given some of the damage that's visible in the pics, I would just leave them until you're ready to remove and replace.

I’ll definitely look into staining them! I didn’t even think about ice in the winter, glad you mentioned it. Thank you all for the advice!
