which lamp works better in the master bedroom?

We are redoing the master bedroom. It's a new dark grey kind size upholstered headboard. The main wall is wallpapered. The walls are BMoore Cinder. The side tables are mirrored (and maybe too small in scale can't change them now!).

Which lamp goes better? The clear round base one? Or the skinny shiny one? The lamp shades are slightly different as well

The bedding is going to change as well (less grey, more white).

The one on the right is a bit to delicate, and the one on the left is clear, which makes it insubstantial, IMO. I’d add something with some color, and maybe a bit taller as well. What’s your favorite color? You have mostly gray black and cream going on, so you can use cream or any bright color.

I’d also swap out the brown pillowcases for something with more color, or white.

Something Iike this might work. Do a search for double or triple gourd lamps, they’re available everywhere. I found this one on Perigold, but lots of places carry them.

Your off to a good start with the bed but lamps need to be bigger

I like the idea of staying with the monochromatic look. I would suggest a taller lamp with a solid (vs. glass) base in the background color of the wallpaper and a lamp shade in the color of the design in the wallpaper.

Yes to larger lamps, those are lovely but are out of balance for the bed.

The first looks like it is a better size, but both seem too small. Note how tall these lamps compared to the headboards in our designs included here.

Would these work? They are 7" taller than the ones in the original photo, but still slightly shorter than the top of the headboard. This one is 27" tall. Maybe still too delicate in the stem?

Both lamps and tables are too small, especially considering the giant pattern of the buffalo check spread.

The bedding is going to change to something simpler - grey / white.

I'd ask myself what the bedside lighting is for. Is it only ambient, or does it include bedside reading? Do I do this by myself, or is the another person involved?

    Then start looking.

Both choices are too short and too insubstantial. How tall and wide (at shade) are they?

The last (larger) lamp you showed is nice, and if it's only slightly lower than the headboard it should work. The thin base leaves more room for other items compared to more "chubby" bases.

The (current) clear glass base lamp, for example, is 20" tall. And the shade is 11" diameter.

The headboard extends up 34" from the top of the nightstand.

I would look for something with a darker base to stand out against your wallpaper.

How's this? This lamp is taller.
Here is a different view. The tall one is on the left.

    i like that last one

The height is good on the last one but could you try one with a more substantial base and shade? To me, the slender ones highlight the small size of the side tables.

I like the stockier mercury glass shown above.

Another option. More substantial base because it's got colour but not too bulky. What do you think? I'm in Canada - options for Gourd style less prevalent and prefer not to buy online from USA or sight- unseen.

It's not quite tall enough. You need something about 4" taller.

These are slightly taller but not quite the colour I wanted. Thoughts?

I like the silver tear drop the best from the last set of pics. it mimics the aLl paper sorta. please post pics once you get rid of that bedspread.

The teardrop is nice. My only issue with it is that is so close to the mirrored nightstand in color. If it had a black base to separate it from the nightstand a bit, it could work. Out of everything so far, I like the teardrop and this one.

@Kerry Blossom - do you think this white duvet cover is too white?
    which duvet??

Another option, a few inches shorter than the top of the headboard. About the same height as the teardrop.

None of these seem to hit the mark. I think my something on the same scale as my lamps would work.

@Kerry - the bedspread - started with a grey checkered one and replaced with a white one with grey border. planning on replacing with another one - still white but a bit more grey throughout (vs just the border). I wasn't sure if you were thinking the white one was too white (when you commented to post with the new bed spread).

@saratooga - thanks for posting. those are lovely! wishing i got bigger nightstands!

crazy question - are table lamps a "must"? Can we go with standing floor lamps instead, on either side of the bed? Since we do have space on both sides.

oh I think you need something softer. a solid shite or cream from your wallpaper. the white one with the grey lines is too boxy-masculine.

If you do read in bed, you may want lamps low enough that the shades block the bare bulb while you read.

The gray could work. They would stand out against your wallpaper.

Can you post a pic of your comforter? It sounds like it may be what is referred to as a "hotel style" and is very classic.
